Qualifications
  • Experience in the field of drama/theatre.
  • Ability to provide accurate, timely, and professional information on school website.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage behavior.
  • Strong communication, public relations and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school district.
Performance Responsibilities
  • Produce and direct one (1) play a year for school and public performance.
  • Teach acting principles and techniques to students.
  • Organize and supervise rehearsal sessions.
  • Maintain inventory and technical aspects of theatre.
  • Maintain and order stage equipment.
  • Keep an organized costume room.
  • Ensure safe supervision of dressing room/make‑up room in visiting facilities.
  • Run a carpenter’s shop to build sets for each production and ensure safety of students and volunteers.
  • Direct students involved in constructing, painting and lighting scenery.
  • Fund raise as needed.
  • Attend Instructional Materials Committee (IMC) meetings to approve script.
  • Acquire rights for play.
  • Communicate with West Valley Drama Coach or other facilities to secure space for performances.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment

The supplemental contract runs from September through June.

Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be completed before employment commences. The successful candidate must complete a fingerprinted background check with the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Employment is contingent upon clearance of the background check.

Retirement
:
All regular, non‑substitute employees are enrolled in a state retirement plan through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS).

Sick Leave
:
All regular, non‑substitute employees receive 12 sick leave days (prorated based on FTE) and paid time off. Substitute employees receive sick leave per RCW 49.46.210.

Paid Time Off
:
All regular, non‑substitute employees receive paid time off, including annual and/or vacation leave. Paid time off varies by position and work year. Refer to the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement or salary schedule for details.

Other Benefits
:
Classified employees receive 10‑13 paid holidays (depending on position and work year). Employees may be eligible for VEBA including monthly accrual and/or sick leave conversion. Benefits are position‑specific. Refer to the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement or salary schedule for details.
