Position: TEACHER - RESOURCE @ SACAJAWEA & PEPERZAK MIDDLE SCHOOL (80/20 SPLIT), 1.0 FTE, CONT.
Spokane Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates who are prepared and excited to provide a 21st century learning environment that effectively addresses the emerging necessity of social emotional supports and blending learning strategies.

2026-27 SCHOOL YEAR - Benefits: Medical/Dental/Vision through SEBB for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year. Additional benefits may include vacation, sick, personal days, and paid holidays. Most positions have additional pay provisions above what is represented on the salary schedule, all in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreements as negotiated.
Position Requirement
This position requires a Washington State Teaching Certificate with a Special Education Endorsement. The Professional Education Standards Board (PESB) can provide additional endorsement requirement information through their site.
Salary: Salary depends upon applicable prior certificated experience, approved credits, earned degrees, and the FTE of the position.
Responsibilities
Organize instructional programs within the prescribed curriculum to provide for individual differences.Teach students of varying abilities effectively.Maintain classroom discipline and use effective classroom management skills.Utilize and maintain district/building curricular and student learning objectives.Prepare and maintain long‑range and weekly lesson plans.Maintain appropriate student records.Work as an effective member of the department to evaluate and improve the program.Communicate and interpret school programs to patrons.Communicate student progress to parents.Be familiar with state essential learnings, district targets, qualifying standards, testing, etc.Work as an effective member of the grade level, staff, and community to evaluate and improve student learning.Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the building administration.Qualifications
Hold a Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements as required by law and regulations. If possessing an initial or provisional certificate, the candidate must hold the appropriate endorsement.Demonstrate classroom management procedures that provide for large and small groups, and individuals, and provide an environment conducive to learning.Use appropriate disciplinary procedures, establish clear parameters for student behavior, respond properly when problems occur, and help students toward self‑discipline.Demonstrate ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and oral form.Be flexible in learning new concepts, cooperate with others, and adapt to a variety of assignments and conditions.Display enthusiasm and optimism toward teaching and student learning.Assess needs of students, prescribe and implement effective lessons to meet students' needs through the use of appropriate and current instructional skills.Gain the respect and confidence of students, parents, and staff through modeling appropriate demeanor, behavior, and attire.Set and attain high levels of expectations with a commitment to using available resources so that accomplishment and growth occurs.Develop favorable relationships with students; listen to, care for, and work collaboratively with them.Relate positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, different learning styles, and various disabilities.Demonstrate the ability to learn new ideas and skills and to solve problems; a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 is expected (subject to waiver if an inadequate pool of qualified applicants exists).Be aware of current educational developments and applications; work collaboratively with others; believe in the importance of education and be interested in the welfare of all students.Use democratic processes to work out problems in a supportive and understanding nonauthoritarian manner.Integrate technology into planning, learning, and record‑keeping activities.Demonstrate knowledge of effective teaching strategies related to the appropriate age of instruction and ability to apply this knowledge in a classroom setting.Show willingness and commitment to participate in professional collaboration and student supervision.Work effectively with a diverse group of students, teachers, parents, and administrators in a confidential manner.Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the instruction/learning process.Work Schedule
