Starting salary for this position is: $42.05 - $89.48 per hour based on workload category. This is an adjunct (part-time) position. Compensation will be pro-rated according to the amount of workload assigned. Spokane Colleges reserves the right to cancel this recruitment without notice. Academic employees are represented by the Association of Higher Education (AHE), which is affiliated with NEA and WEA.
Membership is optional.

Duties And Responsibilities- Prepare for and instruct classes in English Composition in face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities based on the needs of the department.
- Provide availability and accessibility to students through a combination of scheduled office hours, e-mail accessibility and other effective means of responsive and timely communication.
- Communicate expectations and establish clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means, to include but not limited to developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials supporting the instructional process; evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback and support to students.
- May participate in department and general faculty meetings.
- Comply with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities; follow established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, retaining records for grades, bookstore orders, student safety and health issues and related administrative processes.
- An earned Master's degree in English or a closely aligned field from an accredited institution.
- A specialty in Composition/Rhetoric or coursework in Composition Pedagogy from an accredited institution or 2 years equivalent teaching experience in composition as the instructor of record.
- Ability to teach in-person and hybrid composition courses.
- Prior composition teaching experience
- Communicate effectively in oral and written English in a classroom and with other professionals.
- Working/interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Experience equivalent to two years of full-time post-secondary teaching experience.
- Community college teaching experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to student success in classes comprised of students with a wide range of abilities.
Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment.
