The job of Teacher Assistant
- Title I (Teacher Assistant Title I) is performed for the purpose of providing support to the instructional program within an assigned classroom, with specific responsibility for working with individuals or small groups of students and providing clerical support to teachers and staff.

Essential Functions
  • Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives.
  • Administers classroom assignments, tests, homework assignments, make‑up work, etc. to support teachers in the instructional process.
  • Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments (e.g., read stories, listen to students read, providing writing assistance, reinforcing English lessons, providing spelling practice, facilitating activities, computer learning programs, etc.) to practice and reinforce learning concepts and help students reach academic goals and grade‑level standards.
  • Communicates with teachers and/or parents to assist in evaluating progress and implementing classroom objectives.
  • Implements, under the supervision of an assigned teacher, instructional programs and lesson plans to present and reinforce learning concepts.
  • Maintains classroom equipment, work area, manual and electronic files and records to ensure availability of items, provide written reference, and maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Monitors individuals and/or groups of students in various settings (e.g., classroom, field trips, library, lunchroom, bus loading/unloading, etc.) to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g., accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
  • Supports classroom teachers and other school personnel to assist them in implementing curriculum and teaching methodologies.
  • Attends meetings and in‑service presentations to acquire and convey information related to job functions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Requirements
  • Age 16+
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have an Associate's degree or 60 quarter/48 semester hours or have passed the para pro praxis test.
