Position: SUBSTITUTE PARA EDUCATOR
Position Overview
Substitute para educators may work with students in various types of classrooms such as Special Education, limited English speaking classes, and others. You may select areas you are interested in when completing the Substitute Services Supplemental Data Sheet upon hiring. This position provides no benefits and is on‑call with no guarantee of hours.

- General
Education:
$17.46777 per hour - Select Positions: $20.77426 per hour
- Para educator – BI/DI/CI/ABLE/BLDG: $21.42749 per hour
Responsibilities
Work with students under the guidance of the classroom teacher in a confidential manner.Assist teachers with daily classroom activities and student goals, including lifting, feeding, toileting, and/or diapering students.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to work and interact positively and effectively with students, including those with special needs.Ability to follow direction from teachers and administrators and interact with others in a positive manner.High school diploma (or equivalent) and 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits from an accredited college, AA or BA degree, or completion of a rigorous assessment.Interest in working with students, including those with special needs.Ability to lift 50 pounds.Ability to respond appropriately to aggressive and physical behaviors.Capability to kneel, bend, and work or sit on the floor with students; running after students as needed.Provide personal care assistance to students, including feeding, tube feeding with training, toileting, and diapering as required.Basic communication skills with the ability to see, hear, and listen to teachers and students in the classroom or school setting to maintain a safe environment.Flexibility, reliability, and willingness to maintain confidentiality.Reliable transportation or ability to arrive on time for work.Availability during school day hours for a minimum of four hours per day.Ability to substitute at all schools and sites within Spokane Public School District.Experience with computers.Work Schedule
Days and hours are subject to change based on program and district needs.Stipends, leaves, and holidays are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.Benefits
