Position: TEACHER - KINDERGARTEN @ HUTTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, 1.0 FTE, CONT.

Spokane Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates prepared to provide a 21st century learning environment that effectively addresses the emerging necessity of social emotional supports and blending learning strategies.

  • Benefits: Medical, Dental, and Vision through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) for those who work at least 630 hours per academic year, plus additional benefits such as vacation, sick leave, personal days, and paid holidays.
Salary

Salary depends upon applicable prior certificated experience, approved credits, earned degrees, and the FTE of the position. Current salary and stipend information is available through district resources.

Responsibilities
  • Organize instructional programs within the prescribed curriculum to provide for individual differences.
  • Teach students of varying abilities effectively.
  • Maintain classroom discipline using effective management skills.
  • Utilize and maintain district/building curricular and student learning objectives.
  • Prepare and maintain long‑range and weekly lesson plans.
  • Maintain appropriate student records.
  • Work as an effective member of the department to evaluate and improve the program.
  • Communicate and interpret school programs to patrons.
  • Communicate student progress to parents.
  • Be familiar with state essential learning standards, district targets, qualifying standards, and testing.
  • Work as an effective member of the grade level, staff, and community to evaluate and improve student learning.
  • Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the building administration.
  • Qualifications
  • Hold a Washington State teaching certificate with the appropriate endorsements required by law. Candidates with an initial or provisional certificate must hold the correct endorsement.
  • Demonstrate classroom management procedures for large and small groups, and individuals.
  • Use appropriate disciplinary procedures and establish clear parameters for student behavior.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in both written and oral form.
  • Show flexibility in learning new concepts, cooperate with others, and adapt to varied assignments.
  • Display enthusiasm and overall optimism toward teaching and student learning.
  • Assess students’ needs and implement effective lessons that meet those needs.
  • Model appropriate demeanor, behavior, and attire to gain respect and confidence from students, parents, and staff.
  • Set and attain high expectations, using available resources to foster growth and achievement.
  • Develop favorable relationships with students, listening to, caring for, and working collaboratively with them.
  • Relate positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, differing learning styles, and diverse disabilities.
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, unless a waiver applies due to an inadequate pool of fully qualified applicants.
  • Stay current on educational developments, collaborate with others, and demonstrate a commitment to the welfare of all students.
  • Use democratic processes to solve problems supportively and nonauthoritarianly.
  • Integrate technology into planning, learning, and record‑keeping activities.
  • Know effective teaching strategies appropriate to the instructional age group and demonstrate their application in the classroom.
  • Willingness and commitment to participate in professional collaboration and student supervision.
  • Work effectively with a diverse group of students, teachers, parents, and administrators while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the instruction/learning process.
