Position: SUBSTITUTE, CERTIFICATED TEACHER

Provide direct classroom instruction for students in varying grades (Preschool - 12) and subject matter.

Key Information
  • Position Type: Substitute Teacher – On‑call, Half Day or Full Day.
  • Rate of Pay: Full Day – $180.00 / Half Day – $90.00 (Traditional Classroom);
    Full Day – $190.00 / Half Day – $95.00 (Special Education Classroom).

    Washington State Teaching Certificate.

    Schedule:

    Available after 630 hours in current school year.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate instructional programs within the prescribed curriculum to provide for individual differences.
  • Teach students of varying abilities.
  • Maintain classroom discipline and use effective classroom management skills.
  • Utilize and maintain district/building curricular and student learning objectives.
  • Follow, prepare and maintain lesson plans.
  • Maintain appropriate student records.
  • Communicate and interpret school programs to patrons.
  • Communicate student progress to parents as directed.
  • Be familiar with state essential learnings, district targets, qualifying standards, testing, etc.
  • Work as an effective member of the grade level, staff, and community to evaluate and improve student learning.
  • Half‑day assignments require a 3.5‑hour workday; full‑day assignments require a 7‑hour workday.
  • Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the building administration.
  • Provide fingerprint background check (requirement).
  • Qualifications
  • Qualifications for Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsements; includes initial or provisional certificate with appropriate endorsement.
  • Demonstrates classroom management procedures for large and small groups and individuals.
  • Uses appropriate disciplinary procedures, establishes clear parameters for student behavior, responds properly, and helps students toward self‑discipline.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively in both written and oral form.
  • Shows flexibility, cooperates with others, adapts to a variety of assignments and conditions.
  • Enthusiastic and displays optimism toward teaching and student learning.
  • Assesses needs of students, prescribes and implements effective lessons to meet students' needs.
  • Gains respect and confidence from students, parents, and staff through modeling appropriate demeanor, behavior, and attire.
  • Sets and attains high expectations with a commitment to using available resources so that accomplishment and growth occur.
  • Develops favorable relationships with students; listens to, cares for, and works collaboratively with them.
  • Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, different learning styles, and various disabilities.
  • Demonstrates ability to learn new ideas and skills and solve problems; requires a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 unless waived.
  • Aware of current educational developments and applications; works collaboratively with others.
  • Demonstrates democratic problem‑solving processes.
  • Integrates technology into planning, learning, and record‑keeping activities.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching strategies appropriate to the age of instruction; applies them in the classroom.
  • Willingness to participate in professional collaboration and student supervision.
  • Works effectively with a diverse group of students, teachers, parents, and administrators confidentially.
  • Understands thoroughly the instruction/learning process.
