Director of Disability Resources and Learning Support

Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine (ESFCOM) at Washington State University invites applications for the role of Director of Disability Resources and Learning Support within the Office of Student Experience. The position is located in Spokane, Washington.

The incumbent will hold a 12-month, full-time, fixed-term career track (subtrack determined at time of hire) position in the Department of Medical Education and Clinical Sciences (or other appropriate department within the college) with an academic rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor commensurate with qualifications. The position is an initial one (1) year contract, subject to annual extension. Renewal is subject to satisfactory performance and mutual consent.

In this faculty-level position, you will provide institutional leadership for disability access and accommodations within the medical education program. You will oversee accommodation processes for medical students, advise institutional leaders on disability-related policy matters, and partner with faculty, administrators, campus and clinical partners to promote equitable access across classroom, laboratory, simulation, assessment, and clinical learning environments.

The position requires subject matter expertise in disability law, medical education standards, technical standards, and the unique demands of professional and clinical training. In this role, you will contribute to strategic planning, faculty development, policy formation, and continuous quality improvement efforts related to access, inclusion, and learner support in academic medicine.

In addition to disability access responsibilities, you will provide leadership and administrative oversight for learning support initiatives within the Student Learning Center (SLC), including peer tutoring, academic support services, learning workshops, and specialized learning support programming.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications for all candidates
  • Masters or terminal degree in law, counseling, rehabilitation, psychology, education, public health, medicine, or other field given context of work experience and/or other qualifications.
  • Eligibility for faculty appointment within a department in the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine.
  • Familiarity with medical school technical standards, clinical training environments, simulation-based education, and testing accommodations.
  • Experience managing sensitive, complex, and confidential accommodation cases.
  • Excellent consultation, communication, and relationship-management skills.
  • Commitment to fostering access and opportunity in the academic environment.
  • On-site presence on WSU Spokane Health Sciences campus.
Required Qualifications For Associate Rank
  • Current or previous appointment at the Associate rank or equivalent at a post-secondary institution; or experience determined to be equivalent.
  • Record of accomplishments applicable to the sub-track in teaching, research, clinical, scholarship and/or service activities commensurate with school, college, and university standards for associate rank.
Required Qualifications For Full Professor Rank
  • Current or previous appointment at the full professor rank or equivalent at a post-secondary institution; or experience determined to be equivalent.
  • Record of accomplishments applicable to the sub-track in teaching, research, clinical, scholarship, and/or service activities commensurate with school, college, and university standards for full professor rank.
Preferred Qualifications For All Candidates
  • Record of teaching, faculty development, committee leadership, or scholarship relevant to the role.
  • Experience with accessibility strategy, systems improvement, or program leadership.
  • Experience supervising professional or student support staff and administering academic support or learning assistance programs in higher education or health professions education settings.
Salary

Commensurate with experience and qualifications

Assistant Rank
  • Terminal degree: $135,000-$150,000
  • Masters/Equivalent: $115,000-$140,000
Associate Rank
  • Terminal degree: $150,000-$163,349
  • Masters/Equivalent: $126,000-$154,000
Full Professor Rank
  • Terminal degree: $163,350-$194,000
  • Masters/Equivalent: $138,600-$169,400

Contract
