Job Title

Spokane Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates who are prepared and excited to provide a 21st century learning environment that effectively addresses the emerging necessity of social emotional supports and blending learning strategies.

This position requires a Washington State Teaching Certificate with a Special Education Endorsement. The Professional Education Standards Board (PESB), can provide additional endorsement requirement information through their site; PESB Course and Endorsement Lookup.

The responsibilities include organizing instructional programs, effectively teaching students of varying abilities, maintaining classroom discipline, utilizing district/building curricular and student learning objectives, preparing and maintaining lesson plans, maintaining appropriate student records, working as an effective member of the department to evaluate and improve the program, communicating and interpreting school programs to patrons, communicating student progress to parents, being familiar with state essential learnings, district targets, qualifying standards, testing, etc.,

working as an effective member of the grade level, staff, and community to evaluate and improve student learning, and fulfilling other responsibilities as assigned by the building administration.

Qualifications include possessing a Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements, demonstrating classroom management procedures, using appropriate disciplinary procedures, communicating clearly and effectively in both written and oral form, being flexible in learning new concepts, cooperating with others, and adapting to a variety of assignments and conditions, displaying an overall optimism toward teaching and student learning, assessing needs of students, prescribing and implementing effective lessons to meet students' needs through the use of appropriate and current instructional skills, gaining the respect and confidence of students, parents, and staff through modeling appropriate demeanor, behavior, and attire, setting and attaining high level of expectations with a commitment to using available resources so that accomplishment and growth occurs, developing favorable relationships with students, listening to, caring for, and working collaboratively with them, relating positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, different learning styles, and various disabilities, demonstrating the ability to learn new ideas and skills and to solve problems, being aware of current educational developments and applications, working collaboratively with others, believing in the importance of education, and interested in the welfare of all students, using democratic processes to work out problems in a supportive and understanding nonauthoritarian manner, integrating technology into planning, learning, and record-keeping activities, having knowledge of effective teaching strategies related to the appropriate age of instruction, demonstrating ability to apply this knowledge in a classroom setting, having willingness and commitment to participate in professional collaboration and student supervision, demonstrating ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, teachers, parents, and administrators in a confidential manner, and demonstrating a thorough understanding of the instruction/learning process.
