Position: Health & Fitness Teacher, Continuous Curriculum School, 1.0 FTE Continuing

Health & Fitness Teacher

Under the direction and supervision of the principal or designee, this teaching position will plan instruction, teach, motivate, inspire, and assess students in health/fitness Kindergarten
-8th grade. This teaching position will promote a high quality education program that reflects state standards.

This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:

  • Design and lead age-appropriate physical fitness activities that promote lifelong wellness.
  • Educate students on nutrition, personal health, and wellness practices.
  • Monitor and assess student fitness levels using appropriate tools and benchmarks.
  • Promote safe exercise techniques and injury prevention strategies.
  • Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive social interaction.
  • Maintain and ensure proper use of fitness equipment and facilities.
  • Align instruction with state standards in health and fitness.
  • Deliver adopted health and fitness programs, adapting to individual student needs.
  • Support evaluation of programs and selection of instructional materials.
  • Develop lesson plans using district curriculum and guidelines.
  • Integrate learning objectives and competencies into instruction.
  • Use diverse teaching methods, including letters, demonstrations, and discussions.
  • Contribute to curriculum and instructional development.
  • Teach effective communication skills.
  • Foster a supportive and engaging learning atmosphere.
  • Provide social and academic guidance for students.
  • Promote district goals through parent engagement and related activities.
  • Communicate with staff and parents/guardians regarding student progress.
  • Implement Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
  • Manage classroom behavior with clear parameters and consistent, respectful responses.
  • Maintain appropriate and accurate student records.
  • Participate in a Professional Learning Community (PLC) to use data to support student growth.
  • Pursue professional growth through coursework, workshops, and reading.
  • Exhibit flexibility, high-stress tolerance, reliability, punctuality, and confidentiality.
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain a consistent presence at the assigned work site(s) and work the regular work hours specified by the contract.
  • Professionally interact with a diverse range of colleagues, members of the public, and students.
  • Champion the school mission, "Ensure all students learn at high levels in their academic and social emotional success."
  • Comply with and uphold all district policies and all applicable laws.
  • Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Preference for a strong background in elementary and/or middle school curriculum and as an elementary or middle school health and fitness teacher.

Demonstrate understanding and ability to implement a trauma informed learning environment where the needs of the whole child are accounted for in classroom design.

Understand and apply current educational developments and instructional methodologies.

Flexible in learning new concepts and adapting to a variety of assignments and conditions.

Communicate clearly and effectively in both oral and written forms.

Display enthusiasm, optimism, and motivation towards teaching and student learning.

Participate in school, district, and community events.

Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds or 33% of body weight, whichever is less.

Valid Washington State Teaching certificate, no later than the first contracted day of the 2026/2027 school year with appropriate endorsements as required by law and regulations.

Health and Fitness endorsement required.

Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance.

Valid Washington State driver's license or evidence of mobility.

Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later).

I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act.

Completion of all district-required trainings within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date.

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee may be required to deal with distraught and/or angry persons and may be exposed to infectious diseases carried by children. The noise level in the work environment is acceptable to this particular environment and can vary depending upon daily activity but will remain within acceptable ranges.

The Health/Fitness Teacher shall be evaluated per the terms of the East Valley Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement. The process shall include an evaluation of the employee's performance of the above essential job functions and desired skills.
