Job Description

Step into a rewarding contract position as an Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, serving students across various schools in the area. This important role begins with a maternity leave assignment starting August 25th and continues for approximately 10-12 weeks. You'll work full-time, providing crucial support to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, helping them succeed in inclusive educational environments.

As an itinerant professional, you'll have a dynamic schedule and the unique opportunity to collaborate with educators and students across multiple school sites each week. This role is ideal for those looking to broaden their impact and gain experience in a variety of settings.

Qualifications and

Experience:

  • Valid OSPI Certification with a DHH endorsement is required
  • Prior experience working as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing in an educational setting
  • Proficiency in supporting students with cochlear implants, hearing aids, FM systems, and ASL communication
  • Strong skills in building relationships, adapting instructional methods, and providing direct and consultative services
  • Ability to travel between multiple school locations according to district needs

Core Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction and consultative support to students with hearing loss
  • Create and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's needs
  • Work alongside general education staff and families to foster accessible, inclusive learning environments
  • Advocate for appropriate accommodations, technology supports, and communication access across all settings
  • Conduct assessments, monitor progress, and maintain accurate records
