Position: Temporary Culture Coordinator at Maya Angelou PCS - August 31 to October 31

Position Overview

The Culture Coordinator role is ideal for someone who is knowledgeable about the education of opportunity youth, the utilization of restorative justice as an intervention, and the counseling and support of high school students in a blended learning environment. Reporting directly to the Assistant Principal, the Culture Coordinator will be entrusted to hold students accountable to the school’s code of conduct, guide students in peer mediation, and issue consequences for low-level

infractions.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Ensuring a positive hallway and classroom climate on his/her assigned floor/building area
  • Assisting with student movement throughout the school building
  • Issuing appropriate, minor consequences based on our code of conduct, including responding to and documenting discipline referrals from classroom teachers
  • Intervening and circumventing verbal and physical altercations between students
  • Collaborating with the Restorative Justice Coordinator to ensure students are deliberate in their efforts to repair the harm when there is a negative interaction with another student
  • Entering student discipline data into the school’s student information system (Power School)
  • Logging communication with parents regarding student behavior
  • Logging and tracking individual student tardy data; contacting parents when necessary
  • Creating and maintaining files of student incident reports
  • Facilitating peer mediation to resolve student conflicts
  • Supporting ISS and detention as needed
  • Serving as in-school suspension coordinator as needed
  • Attending local professional development sessions and training
  • Other duties as assigned
Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and accomplish specific tasks as requested
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all staff
  • Ability to stand and walk through campus for long periods of time
  • Ability to meet the physical rigors of TACT2 training
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality surrounding sensitive student information
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional and supportive relationships with students with the objective of supporting their educational goals
  • Demonstrates team spirit, initiative, and a willingness to collaborate with all members of the school community
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (preferred)
  • 2 or more years of experience working with at-risk youth in an educational setting
  • Experience with behavior intervention and school security
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Google Documents, and email
  • Experience managing the discipline of youth between the ages of 13 and 19
  • Experience in a socio-emotional learning environment
  • Trained in TACT2 or willing and eligible to receive TACT2 training and certification
Salary and Benefits

This role is temporary. Compensation will be a daily rate of $150.00-$175.00.
