Protect the people who keep Washington moving.
Every day, millions of Washington workers build, grow, innovate, and serve. Behind that progress stands a dedicated team, the Division of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH), ensuring that every worker goes home safe and healthy.
As an Industrial Hygiene Consultant
, you’ll be at the heart of that mission. You’ll step into real‑world workplaces, uncover unseen health hazards, and use your expertise to make lasting improvements in safety and wellbeing. From chemical exposures to noise control, your work helps shape the future of occupational health in Washington State.
In this role, you will engage directly with business owners, managers, and workers across diverse industries. Your approach will be collaborative, solutions‑oriented, and grounded in mutual respect. Rather than positioning yourself as an enforcer or authority figure, you will serve as a knowledgeable consultant, explaining complex regulatory and industrial hygiene requirements into practical, achievable steps that support both compliance and operational realities.
You won’t just be checking boxes; you’ll be changing lives. The recommendations you make directly prevent injuries, illnesses, and long‑term health impacts. You’ll be part of a respected, mission‑driven organization that values technical excellence, professional growth, and teamwork.
And because we know that people do their best work when life is balanced, this role offers flexible scheduling, telework opportunities, and the chance to work with a collaborative, supportive team that values curiosity and innovation.
This is not a medical, clinical, or patient care role. It is a technical position focused on industrial hygiene, including workplace exposure assessment, sampling, and hazard control.
This in‑training opportunity provides a structured path to the journey‑level investigator role, including classroom instruction, field experience, and mentorship from experienced industrial hygienists and safety professionals.
This position can be offered with a flexible schedule (4/10’s, 9/80’s, 5/8’s, etc.) once fully trained and approved by management.
Teleworking is permitted on occasion depending upon business needs and supervisor approval. The assigned duty station can be in any one of our Region 5 locations:
E. Wenatchee, Moses Lake, Union Gap, or Kennewick.
