The primary function of the Senior Controls Engineer is to provide technical oversight of facility Operational Technology (OT) systems, equipment, and controls projects at JHS‑Spokane. The position may participate directly or provide oversight of controls engineers or controls technicians on project teams responsible for the design, acquisition, installation, and/or upgrade of critical systems and equipment used in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products.
The Senior Controls Engineer assumes responsibility and accountability for capital and expense projects involving controls in facility or production equipment, cost reduction, process improvement, and/or compliance. The Senior Controls Engineer also provides engineering support to contract manufacturing teams, including process development, process optimization, and deviation investigations.
- Provides overall technical oversight for JHS‑Spokane OT equipment controls systems.
- Provides expert technical support of OT Controls projects including facility and utility expansion, compliance upgrades, cost reduction, contract manufacturing, process improvements, and construction projects.
- Participates in support, guidance, and training for Maintenance controls technicians with troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs.
- Provides controls engineering support and guidance for contract manufacturing teams, including process development, recipe creation and maintenance, and support of related capital projects.
- Is responsible for knowledge of regulatory requirements for the facility and processes to ensure compliance to local, state, federal, and international regulatory agencies.
- Manages and/or participates in major capital and expense facility projects in accordance with the “Project Management Guidelines” system, including scheduling, budgeting, meeting management, teamwork, communication, and documentation of a multi‑departmental project team.
- Must work effectively with various internal and external customers on a daily basis, including departments such as Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Validation, Finance, and external stakeholders such as regulatory agencies, A&E firms, construction firms, vendors, and equipment manufacturers.
- Participates in compliance to both short‑term and long‑term company objectives as defined by upper management.
- Develops detailed specifications and RFQs for A&E firms, contractors, or equipment manufacturers to accurately quote on projects being pursued by the company.
- Responsible for developing and using systems of engineering documentation required by regulatory agencies and compliant with generally accepted engineering guidelines, SOPs, or quality standards.
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing, or a similar engineering discipline.
