Job Description

This Environmental Engineer role focuses on site characterization and remediation, combining field work with engineering analysis and technical reporting. You will evaluate and interpret environmental data, perform engineering and scientific analyses, and develop designs and reports that support environmental projects. Working closely with sr engineers and technical staff, you will contribute to environmental assessments, remediation projects, and proposal development for a variety of public and private clients.

Responsibilities

+ Conduct and lead environmental field investigations and site characterization activities, including environmental assessments and subsurface explorations.

+ Perform and oversee test borings, monitoring well installation, and related subsurface exploration tasks.

+ Carry out soil, groundwater, and soil vapor sampling in accordance with industry standards and project-specific requirements.

+ Evaluate and interpret environmental data to support engineering and scientific analyses for site characterization and remediation projects.

+ Prepare design documents, including engineering calculations, design drawings, specifications, and engineers' estimates for environmental and remediation projects.

+ Generate and draft clear, well-organized technical reports, figures, and tables that document findings, analyses, and recommendations.

+ Provide on-site monitoring and engineering observation of contractor activities to verify compliance with project plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements.

+ Document site remediation activities and prepare associated field notes, logs, and reports.

+ Assist with or manage Underground Storage Tank (UST) removal and remediation projects for public and private clients.

+ Support the development of technical scopes of work and cost estimates for project proposals.

+ Collaborate with sr engineers, geologists, and other technical staff to plan and execute environmental and geotechnical projects.

+ Adhere to all company and client health and safety protocols, including active participation in daily tailgate safety meetings and other safety-related activities.

+ Apply principles of environmental engineering, environmental science, geology, and environmental compliance to project work, including stormwater, drainage, and site development considerations.

+ Use construction knowledge and project management skills to coordinate field activities, manage schedules, and support project delivery.

Essential Skills

+ 4 to 10 years of related experience, preferably with Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments.

+ Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a closely related field.

+ Professional certification such as E.I.T., F.E., or P.E., or a strong willingness to apply for initial professional certification.

+ Solid understanding of environmental assessment, environmental engineering, and environmental science principles.

+

Experience with environmental compliance, remediation, and environmental monitoring.

+ Hands-on experience with soil sampling, groundwater sampling, and soil vapor sampling.

+ Knowledge of geology and subsurface exploration methods, including test borings and monitoring well construction.

+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for data analysis, reporting, and documentation.

+ Familiarity with industry-standard design and drafting software such as AutoCAD.

+ Ability to work with and troubleshoot environmental sampling equipment in the field.

+ Capability to lift up to 50 pounds and traverse unstable or sloping terrain during field work.

+ Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions while maintaining safety and quality standards.

+ Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

+ Ability to pass a pre-employment BG check and drug/alcohol test.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training is strongly preferred.

+

Experience with remediation projects, including UST removal and site cleanup.

+ Experience in stormwater, drainage, and site development projects.

+ Experience in construction-related environments and understanding of construction practices.

+ Project management experience, including coordinating field activities and supporting budgets and schedules.

+ Strong technical writing skills for preparing detailed technical reports, figures, and tables.

+ Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, geologists, and field technicians.

+ Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in both field documentation and office deliverables.

Work Environment

This position primarily operates in an office environment, where you will perform data analysis, design work, reporting, and coordination with project teams.
