Senior Substation Project Engineer
At HDR, you will help shape how electricity is generated, transmitted and delivered as global energy demands grow by working with industry‑recognised engineers and scientists.
Responsibilities- Coordinate the work of design engineers with the full multidisciplinary team throughout the project’s development
- Establish client relations and participate in marketing, design, and production meetings
- Assume technical lead within a project execution team
- Participate in reviews with governing agencies for code compliance
- Conduct schematic, design development and contract document work sessions at the project site with the Project Manager and other disciplines
- Coordinate workload to complete project deliverables on schedule
- Work with the Project Manager and Project Controller on project reviews with management as needed
- Direct the activities of other engineering professionals and act as a mentor to other staff members as needed
- Perform other duties as required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
- 10+ years of substation design experience (preferred)
- Experience with substation physical/outdoor design, including yard layouts, plans, sections, details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, raceways, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, and bills of materials
- Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm
- Proficient with industry software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Aspen, ETAP, Easy Power, etc.
- Experience preparing specifications, drawings, and other engineering documents
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Minimum of 10 years of experience
- Professional engineering license recognised by the licensing board for the location of the position (e.g., PE, P.Eng)
- Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (e.g., PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Auto Pipe, Revit)
