Engineer III or IV Public Works

Job Overview

The Public Works Department is seeking motivated professionals to join our progressive engineering and project management team. Candidates will serve as Engineer III or Engineer IV depending on qualifications and experience, based at Port Townsend.

• Deliver capital projects including wastewater facilities, roads, trails, bridges, and stormwater infrastructure.
• Develop plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Conduct legal and technical research.
• Manage consultants and grant applications.
• Oversee construction management and inspection.
• Apply federal, state and county policies and regulations.
• Handle multiple major projects concurrently.
• Provide advanced engineering expertise in specialized areas.
• Serve as a technical resource to staff engineers and technicians on complex projects.

• Bachelor’s degree in civil, mechanical engineering, architecture, or a closely related field.
• 4–7 years of progressively responsible experience in civil, traffic, or mechanical engineering (depending on level).
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Washington State required. WA registration desirable for Engineer III; WA P.E. or another state P.E. with ability to obtain WA P.E. within six months required for Engineer IV.
• Ability to perform essential duties; reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.

Work week:
Monday – Friday. Typical work day: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

• Teamsters Grade A3‑M, 40 hours per week, pay range $42.46/hr – $50.74/hr.
• Teamsters Grade A3‑N, 40 hours per week, pay range $44.58/hr – $53.26/hr.
