Position: Stage Technician 2

Overview

The Stage Technician 2 position provides technical support and run‑of‑show for all Bishop Center for Performing Arts events, including outside performing acts, departmental performances, dress rehearsals, student events, outreach, and theatrical productions.

Key responsibilities include managing inventory and supplies related to theatre and music productions, tracking and performing maintenance projects, and leading other personnel and volunteers in production projects.

This is a full‑time position. Work hours fluctuate throughout the year, with extended hours during performances or events and lighter workloads between events. The schedule is flexible and may be adjusted as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Communicate with supervisor, directors, and outside acts about technical needs.
  • Coordinate with custodial and maintenance staff for scheduled events.
  • Coordinate with sound technician.
  • Run light or sound board as needed.
  • Act as lead for other technical personnel, including students and volunteers, emphasizing safety.
  • Provide technical support for other campus events as schedule allows.
Production Team Lead
  • Communicate and coordinate with directors, supervisor, and sound engineer to develop and execute a technical plan.
  • Act as lead for production teams and contractors related to technical theatre.
  • Design and implement lighting to meet production needs and assist with hanging, circuiting, and focusing of stage lighting according to the designer’s light plot.
  • Assist with load‑in and load‑out for outside acts.
  • Lead the set‑in, running, strike, disposal, or storage of all scenery, emphasizing safety and reuse of materials.
Maintenance and Inventory
  • Maintain and track stock of stage lighting equipment, shop inventory, and sound equipment.
  • Conduct maintenance and adjustment of all stage equipment and on‑stage lighting instruments in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Plan and schedule maintenance and equipment replacements with supervisor and sound engineer.
  • Track and help schedule larger maintenance and replacement projects with supervisors and department heads.
  • Communicate maintenance or safety concerns with campus operations.
  • Assist with tracking equipment and props loaned to local theatres.

The majority of this position is self‑directed, requiring self‑motivation and the ability to keep projects on task while collaborating with the production team for larger theatrical productions and coordinating with supervisory staff for smaller events.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of experience as a Stage Technician 1 or equivalent technical experience in a professional or community theatre setting.
  • Theatrical lighting experience.
  • Sound board experience.
  • Self‑starter capable of working independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with diverse groups and stakeholders.
  • Experience leading a team.
Desired Qualifications
  • Technical theatre leadership.
  • Small theatre experience (production team, stage management, directing, design, etc).
  • Construction or set building experience.
  • Associate degree.
