Uprise's mission is to give everyone in the world the ability to optimize their finances, starting with small business owners. We provide modern financial and tax support through embedded partnerships with platforms that serve small business owners, founders, and high-net-worth individuals. By combining expert guidance with technology, we help business owners make smarter decisions across both business and personal finances.
We're backed by top VCs (Blank Ventures, Exponent, Contrary Capital, On Deck, Hustle Fund) and founders and senior execs from Gusto, SoFi, Stripe, and Robinhood, among others.
Role DescriptionWe're looking for a CPA or EA with expertise in trust and estate taxation to join our team on an ongoing contract basis. This is a year-round role with flexible hours that scale with demand (heavier during tax season and gift tax filing deadlines, lighter outside of them).
You'll prepare trust income tax returns and gift tax returns for founders, business owners, and related parties, and contribute to fiduciary tax planning and advisory conversations year-round. As part of a small, collaborative team, you'll also help shape how we build and improve our service for clients with trust and estate tax needs.
What You'll Do- Prepare fiduciary income tax returns (Form 1041) for irrevocable and revocable trusts of varying complexity, including grantor and non-grantor trusts
- Prepare gift tax returns (Form 709), including reporting for gifts to irrevocable trusts, split gifts, and generation-skipping transfer tax allocations
- Provide tax planning guidance and advisory support outside of filing season - helping clients and their advisors think ahead on topics like trust income distribution planning, DNI allocations, and gift tax annual exclusion and lifetime exemption strategies
- Coordinate with trustees, estate attorneys, and financial advisors to ensure accurate and timely reporting
- Maintain high standards for accuracy, responsiveness, and client trust
- Navigate complex fiduciary tax scenarios using your professional judgment, supported by Uprise tools, leadership, and peers
- Surface client patterns and insights to help improve our product and service delivery
- Active CPA or EA credential with a valid PTIN
- 3+ years of tax preparation experience with a focus on fiduciary and gift taxation (Form 1041, Form 709, Schedules K-1, trust accounting income, DNI calculations, GST tax allocations)
- Familiarity with QSBS planning in the context of irrevocable trusts is a strong plus
- Solid knowledge of trust accounting principles and the interplay between trust documents and tax reporting
- Proficiency with professional tax software and comfort working across multiple digital systems (Drake experience preferred)
- Strong communicator - able to simplify complex fiduciary tax concepts for clients and coordinate effectively with attorneys and trustees
- Comfortable working remotely with client portals, secure file sharing, e-sign tools, and video calls
- Available approximately 5–10 hours/week to start, with volume expected to grow over time
