To help us sustain and grow this vital impact, we are seeking a strategic, financially savvy leader to join our Board of Directors as Treasurer.
This is a volunteer position; no monetary compensation is provided.
OpportunityAs the Treasurer of the Board, you will be a key officer and a trusted advisor, overseeing the financial health and integrity of our organization. This is a high-impact volunteer role where your expertise will directly ensure sound financial management, compliance, and accurate reporting while empowering WFS to achieve its mission effectively.
Key Responsibilities- Financial Oversight: Review financial statements with the Board, monitor financial performance, and identify potential risks or opportunities.
- Budgeting & Planning: Review and oversee the development of the annual budget in collaboration with staff and the Board, providing financial input for strategic planning.
- Policy & Internal Controls: Recommend and help implement financial policies, ensuring robust internal controls are in place to safeguard WFS assets.
- Audit & Compliance: Coordinate with external auditors and work with staff to ensure accurate, timely completion of financial filings (e.g., Form 990).
- Strategic Communication: Communicate the organization's financial status to the Board and stakeholders, collaborating closely with the President & CEO and key staff.
- Fund Management: Provide oversight of banking relationships, manage investment accounts (as applicable), and monitor cash flow.
- Financial Expertise: Strong financial literacy, with proven experience in accounting, financial management, corporate finance, or related fields.
- Non-Profit Knowledge: Familiarity with non-profit financial practices and reporting requirements is highly preferred.
- Workforce Development Knowledge: Familiarity with workforce development systems, regional economic trends, or public funding streams is highly valued. This means having an understanding of, or passion for, programs that upskill workers, reduce unemployment, and help local businesses find the talent they need to thrive.
- Leadership
Experience:
Prior experience serving on a non-profit board is a plus. - Skills: Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively alongside diverse stakeholders.
- Mission-Driven: A genuine commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Workforce Snohomish.
- Attendance at quarterly Board meetings.
- Attendance at ad-hoc Board meetings, if convened.
- Monthly alignment meetings with the Vice President of Finance (approx. 1 hour/month, with additional time during budgeting or audit periods).
