Job Summary
As a Tax Manager, Partnerships you will advise clients on the tax implications of their business objectives and partnership‑specific items such as section 704(b) and taxable income allocations, capital account maintenance, liability analysis and allocations, section 734(b) and 743(b) adjustment calculations, and Tax Receivable Agreement (TRA) calculations. You will apply your knowledge and experience to understand potential partnership taxation issues, assist in the preparation of partnership‑specific computations, and serve as a key member of the leadership team of the STS Partnership Practice.
Responsibilities- Maintain and develop a deep understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding partnership taxation.
- Identify when research is needed, frame issues clearly, and report analysis. Identify complex issues for the engagement team and provide research methodology.
- Train associates and senior associates on research skills and on appropriately framing tax issues for analysis.
- Assist with developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits, especially by reducing current and future taxes while managing risk.
- Implement applicable firm strategies and manage client expectations.
- Supervise associates and senior associates on all projects; review work, provide feedback, and train on software tools.
- Act as a career advisor and manage the workload of team members.
- Participate in organizing and conducting external CPE training sessions in partnership taxation, at least once per year.
- Bachelor’s degree required (major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics preferred).
- Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
- Five (5) or more years of relevant tax experience, including public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services.
- Specialized partnership experience required; prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Private equity experience (both fund and portfolio company levels) preferred.
- CPA certification, Attorney admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction, or IRS Enrolled Agent (EA) preferred. Other relevant professional degrees or certifications are preferred.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software preferred.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills; strong analytical, research, and critical‑thinking abilities.
- Ability to delegate work effectively, manage a team of tax professionals, and build and maintain client relationships.
- Strong organizational skills, detail orientation, and the ability to meet project deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Executive presence and the capability to act as a primary contact on engagements.
National Range: $79,800 - $168,000
Maryland Range: $79,800 - $168,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $79,800 - $168,000
Washington DC Range: $79,800 - $168,000
