Role SummaryThe Assistant Accounting Manager/Team Leader leads the preparation of financial reports and ensures the accurate, timely completion of financial and accounting records for the credit union. They manage and maintain reliable accounting information, oversee reconciliations of general ledger and bank accounts, and ensure procedures conform to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
What You Will Be Doing- Lead the operations of the Accounting Department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, cash flow, cost management, credit and collections, financial analysis, reporting, and general ledger.
- Manage daily payroll operations and maintain confidential payroll information.
- Oversee the preparation of all financial, statistical, and accounting records and ensure accurate payment of all liabilities.
- Recommend benchmarks for measuring financial and operating performance across divisions.
- Assist in formulation and execution of credit union policies, objectives, and programs.
- Lead the annual budget process and forecasting for the Accounting Department.
- Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget.
- Serve as the point person for the Accounting Department on projects outside its usual scope.
- Perform BSA functions as required.
- Attend training sessions, conferences, and seminars approved by supervisor and maintain awareness of related policies and regulations.
- Prepare financial analysis for contract negotiations and product investment decisions.
- Collaborate with the Sr. Controller to establish and implement departmental goals, policies, and operating procedures.
- Coordinate, delegate, and review work to ensure quality and timeliness.
- Set priorities to meet expectations and requirements of the department.
- Ensure all reconciliations are performed accurately and on time.
- Design, implement, and evaluate effective accounting processes.
- Develop and maintain written accounting department procedures.
- Assist other departments with preparation for significant business opportunities.
- Work with auditors and examiners on annual audits and regulatory examinations.
- Recruit, interview, and recommend hires; assist in training new employees.
- Serve on credit union committees as assigned.
- Perform financial analysis and data analytics where applicable.
- Maintain and protect sensitive data with the highest confidentiality and professionalism.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, NCUA Rules, Federal Credit Union Act, Bylaws, and other regulations.

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
- 8–10 years of similar or related experience.
- 5 years of credit union or financial institution experience.
- Proficiency with standard office equipment, word processing, reporting, and spreadsheets.
- Advanced understanding of accounting procedures; prior financial analysis or services experience in a credit union or similar sector is desirable.
- Ability to lead and mentor team members.
- Ability to work independently and set priorities with limited oversight.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
