Experienced Accountant

We are looking for an experienced accountant to oversee accounting operations and guide financial planning for a non-profit organization in Spokane, Washington. This role combines strategic oversight with hands-on management of reporting, controls, grant compliance, and day-to-day financial activities. The ideal candidate can communicate financial insights clearly to leadership, support strong operational decision-making, and foster a high-performing finance team.

Responsibilities

• Advise executive leadership, the finance committee, and the board on financial strategy, performance, and organizational risks.

• Direct the budgeting cycle, forecasting process, cash planning, and long-range financial modeling to support sustainable growth.

• Produce timely financial reports and analyses that help leaders and board members make informed decisions.

• Manage core accounting functions, including close activities, reconciliations, payables, receivables, payroll-related coding, ledger integrity, and financial statement preparation.

• Improve internal controls, purchasing practices, approval structures, and documentation standards to strengthen financial accuracy and accountability.

• Oversee grant-related financial administration by tracking restricted funding, submitting reimbursement requests, monitoring spending, and meeting reporting obligations.

• Reduce financial risk by addressing coding issues, preventing missed funding deadlines, minimizing unspent grant balances, and supporting timely billing.

• Coordinate audit readiness efforts, assist with annual tax form review, and maintain compliance with funder and regulatory requirements.

• Lead, mentor, and develop finance team members while partnering with departments on staffing, program needs, and financial planning priorities.
