Position: Community Corrections Officer 2 (Or CCO1 In-Training) - Spokane SAU

Community Corrections Officer 2 (CCO2) – Spokane, WA

Salary:

  • DOC WFSE CCO1*: $4,603.00 to $6,190.00 per month.
  • DOC WFSE CCO2: $5,610.00 to $7,540.00 per month.
  • Salary depends on qualifications. Minimum starting salary for a CCO1 placement begins at Step G ($5,338.00/month).
About the Role

We are actively recruiting for a full‑time, permanent Community Corrections Officer 2 (CCO2) vacancy within the Community Corrections Division. This position works for the Spokane Special Assault Unit (SAU) located at 1717 West Broadway Avenue, Spokane, WA 99201.

The Spokane SAU supervises a caseload of registered individuals who have been convicted of a sex offense. During supervision they are under one or more jurisdictions including the Indeterminate Sentence Review Board (Parole), the Court, and DOC. This position requires interfacing with stakeholders, therapists, and polygraph examiners. Responsibilities also include conducting pre‑sentence investigations and making recommendations to the Court for an appropriate sentence within sentencing guidelines.

Exposure to sensitive material is common.

Shift hours: 0800‑1700 Monday‑Friday.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct investigations, searches, issue warrants, and make arrests.
  • Complete intake and administer risk, needs, and substance abuse assessments.
  • Manage electronic and hard‑copy files and reports.
  • Engage with supervised individuals (S/Is) using Motivational Interviewing and Principles of Effective Interventions.
  • Enforce supervision conditions and the law, presenting accurate written documentation and oral testimony.
  • Identify, collect, document, process, and maintain evidence and information with proper chain of custody.
  • Exercise sound judgment and follow Department policies, procedures, and protocols regarding firearms, safety vest, and security procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications – CCO1 (In‑Training)
  • Must be able to carry and properly utilize a department‑issued firearm.
  • Must possess and maintain an unrestricted vehicle operator’s license valid in Washington.
  • Must have the willingness and ability to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds and anti‑social behaviors; review graphic materials; remain objective.
  • Demonstrated ability in three or more of the following (college‑level coursework or experience):
    • Written Communication skills.
    • Critical Thinking.
    • Analytical Reasoning.
    • Conflict Resolution.
    • Situational Awareness.
    • Problem Solving and Organizational Skill.
    • Work independently.
    • Flexibility.
  • AND must have one of the following combinations of qualifying education and/or professional work or volunteer experience in adult or juvenile corrections, counseling, social work, social services, law enforcement, or a closely related field:
    • High school diploma or GED and at least four years of qualifying experience.
    • Associate or technical degree and two years of qualifying experience.
    • Bachelor’s degree.
    • Or an equivalent combination totaling four years.
Qualifications – CCO2 (Permanent)
  • Must be able to carry and properly utilize a department‑issued firearm.
  • Must possess and maintain an unrestricted vehicle operator’s license valid in Washington.
  • Must have the willingness and ability to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds and anti‑social behaviors; review graphic materials; remain objective.
  • Demonstrated ability in three or more of the following (college‑level coursework or professional experience):
    • Field visits, written correspondence, case assessment, and recommendations.
    • Referral to resources, presentation in court or hearings, completion of risk factors assessment.
    • Designing, monitoring, and facilitating treatment plans.
    • Managing caseloads with conflicting priorities.
    • Communicating clearly and concisely in writing and orally.
    • Work independently and in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • AND must have one of the following combinations of qualifying education and/or professional work experience:
    • One year experience as a CCO within the Washington State Department of Corrections.
    • Associate or technical degree and three years of professional experience.
    • Bachelor’s degree and one year of professional experience.
    • Or an equivalent combination totaling five years.
