The Downtown Spokane Partnership (DSP) is hiring a Policy & External Affairs Specialist to support the work that keeps downtown Spokane moving forward.
This role is ideal for a professional looking to grow their experience in public policy, stakeholder engagement, and economic vitality while contributing to meaningful, visible work in the community.
You'll support DSP's advocacy, business engagement, and partnership efforts - helping ensure downtown Spokane remains vibrant, competitive, and responsive to those it serves.
What You'll Do
Policy & Issue Support
- Monitor local, state, and federal issues impacting downtown
- Assist in researching and summarizing policy topics
- Prepare briefing materials and internal summaries
- Attend public meetings and report back key takeaways
- Assist with development of advocacy materials, including briefs and talking points
- Support coordination of DSP's policy efforts and committees
- Help maintain relationships with public sector partners and stakeholders
- Engage with downtown businesses and property owners
- Support business outreach and engagement efforts
- Assist in identifying trends impacting downtown vitality
- Contribute to membership outreach and retention efforts
- Support events, meetings, and community initiatives
- Assist with reporting and internal coordination
- 2-4 years of experience in public policy, communications, economic development, or related field
- Basic understanding of government and public policy processes
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to stay organized and manage multiple priorities
- Professional presence and willingness to engage with stakeholders

This role is primarily based in our downtown Spokane office, with flexibility where appropriate. Some evening and weekend participation is expected as part of community-facing work.
