Salary:
- CCO1: $4,880.00 to $6,563.00 per month
- CCO2: $5,948.00 to $7,994.00 per month
- Minimum starting salary for a CCO1 placement begins at $5,659.00/monthly (Step G)
About the Position:
This full‑time, non‑permanent Community Corrections Officer 2 (CCO2) position in the Spokane Special Needs Unit (SNU) is expected to last about three months with potential extensions up to twelve months. The unit oversees individuals with serious mental illness, those found Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity, Special Finding of Violent Felony cases, and Special Health Court or Reentry Community Supervision Program participants.
Shift: 0800–1700, Monday–Friday
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and support supervised individuals (S/Is) in accordance with state law, Interstate Compact Rules, and agency policy.
- Conduct investigations, searches, issue warrants, and make arrests.
- Complete intake and administer assessments (risk, needs, substance abuse).
- Maintain electronic and hard‑copy files, reports, and evidence with proper chain of custody.
- Provide motivational interviewing and other communication strategies to facilitate positive change.
- Enforce supervision conditions, present accurate documentation and oral testimony, and make sanction recommendations for courts.
- Ensure personal safety practices, including wearing a safety vest and adhering to firearm storage and handling policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications (CCO1 and CCO2):
- Carry and properly utilize a department‑issued firearm.
- Maintain an unrestricted Washington State driver’s license.
- Work effectively with individuals with criminal backgrounds and anti‑social behaviors; review graphic materials; remain objective.
- Demonstrate proficiency in at least three of the following areas:
- Written communication (clear, factual, concise).
- Critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and problem solving.
- Conflict resolution, situational awareness, and flexibility.
- Work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet productivity standards.
- Meet one of the following education or experience requirements:
- High school diploma or GED + 4 years of qualifying experience.
- Associate or technical degree + 2 years of qualifying experience.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Equivalent education and experience totaling the required years.
Additional CCO2‑Specific
Qualifications:
- Demonstrate experience in at least three of the following: field visits, written correspondence, case assessment, referrals, court presentation, risk assessment, treatment plan oversight, record keeping, and technology use.
- Meet one of the following experience combinations:
- One year as a CCO in the Washington State Department of Corrections.
- Associate or technical degree + 3 years of qualifying experience.
- Bachelor’s degree + 1 year of qualifying experience.
- Equivalent education and experience totaling five years.
Special Requirements and Conditions:
- Complete a felony disclosure form and background check.
- Pass psychological screening and drug testing.
- Complete mandatory training, including Firearms Academy and Control/Impedance Tactics.
- Maintain all department policies and procedures.
