Police Radio Dispatcher

Have you been employed in the last 18 months as a law enforcement radio dispatcher utilizing a Computer Aided Dispatch System? Examples of job functions include receiving operational calls and messages by police radio, telephone and computer, providing requested information or transmitting messages and information to mobile units, dispatching additional police units on trouble calls, relaying messages between mobile units, operating an electronic message recorder, maintaining an operational log, monitoring other City department radio frequencies, preparing and maintaining necessary reports, records and files, performing extensive operation at computer terminals, receiving emergency calls, dispatching emergency personnel and equipment, entering, updating and receiving information, emergency and non-emergency, using the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) computer, assisting in maintaining appropriate radio files, maintaining radio, telephone and computer contact with other agencies and public safety support organizations, assisting in preparation and maintenance of records and reports, and performing related work as required.

Minimum qualifications include one year of continuous experience (full-time or equivalent hours) and employed within the last eighteen months as a law enforcement radio dispatcher utilizing a Computer Aided Dispatch System. Pre-employment requirements include a thorough police background investigation, including but not limited to criminal history, fingerprinting, and polygraph. Applicants must submit a Personal History Statement (PHS) form. Within one year of appointment, employees in this classification must have the ability to type a minimum of 200 keystrokes (40 words) per minute.

Employees must obtain ACCESS II certification during the probationary period.

The City of Spokane provides a generous benefits package valued between $24,902 - $34,218 in addition to a salary. The benefits package includes insurance benefits, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, retirement benefits, and work/life programs.
