This recruitment is open to all applicants meeting the minimum requirements. Priority consideration will be given to Spokane County employees in a position covered by the 1553 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) submitting applications between 9/4/26 and 9/14/26. First consideration will be given to applicants working in District Court Probation in a position covered by the 1553 CBA; second consideration given to County-wide applicants in a position covered by the 1553 CBA;

third consideration given to all other applicants, including the public.

GENERAL PURPOSE

The position allocated to this class performs “non-oath” support functions associated with facilitation of probation casework: performs intake procedures, assists in a limited capacity with probationer monitoring, closes cases and assists in other areas as assigned. Work is performed under the guidance and supervision of the District Court Manager and/or Probation Officers. This class is distinguished from the Probation Officer class by the narrow scope of work and a lesser degree of independent decision making.

Incumbents will not routinely appear and/or present in court, except as requested for training purposes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assists Probation Officers with performing caseload management activities including but not limited to case reviews, scheduling appointments, and entering data in electronic case files.
  • Monitors minimal or low risk supervision cases.
  • Conducts office visits and meets one-on-one with offenders to explain sentencing and/or Stipulation of Continuance (SOC) agreement conditions; completes intake interviews, coordinates, and submits treatment referrals; provide information on community treatment resources, and referrals to Court ordered classes.
  • Provides information on basic community resources to defendants.
  • Conducts research on treatment providers in other states for defendants who reside elsewhere.
  • May schedule future appointments for Therapeutic Court Probation Officers, DUI, Mental Health, or Veteran’s Therapeutic Court.
  • Reviews and uploads reports for the Probation Officer to include Ignition Interlock, Drug Test Screenings, Electronic Home Monitoring and (SCRAM) reports.
  • Processes mail and incoming fax reports; scans into the District Court Probation application.
  • Uploads Court Orders and other reports into Imaging for the District Court.
  • Contacts a variety of outside agencies for verification of court-ordered compliance, maintains detailed records of contacts, informs the Probation Officer of non-compliance.
  • Coordinates treatment referral information and monitor community agencies for statutory compliance.
  • Monitors compliance of treatment obligations with professional treatment providers.
  • Researches first appearance notifications for new charges on all monitored cases, active and Bench Probation.
  • Reports offender noncompliance with conditions of the sentence to the Court.
  • Generates violation reports) for new arrests or first appearances.
  • Orders police reports from the Law Enforcement Reporting Management System (LERMS), Washington State Patrol (WSP) or National Criminal Information Center (NCIC) systems.
  • Collects data statistics on all Court orders received and probation fees ordered, reduced, or waived.
