Position: Executive Director Pharmacy - Central Division

DESCRIPTION

The Executive Director Pharmacy for the Central Division is responsible and accountable for strategy setting, planning, developing, implementing, coordinating and managing divisional clinical & operational pharmacy services (may include but not limited to inpatient pharmacy, outpatient pharmacy, Family Medicine Clinic, long term care, home infusion pharmacies, clinical pharmacy programs, etc.) that provide for quality pharmacy care to Providence St. Joseph Health patients, clients and staff throughout the division under the highest professional standards.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Chief Pharmacy Officer, responsibilities include: member of the system Pharmacy Governance council (PCG) & in collaboration with System Pharmacy leadership, set system strategy, and clinical and operational pharmacy program development, Divisional pharmacy service design that promote medication safety, medication formulary management and order-set standardization, investigational drug services, drug information and drug policy development, medication safety and all pharmacy educational training programs (e.g. caregiver education, interns, residency, inters, students, etc.),

regulatory compliance, meeting operational, productivity, and financial objectives, budgeting, human resources, talent development, and succession planning for pharmacy services across the Division.

The Executive Director works closely with the Chief Pharmacy Officer and the System Pharmacy team. In addition, he/she collaborates with other Divisional executive leaders in the development and delivery of healthcare services across the Division. The Executive Director is a member of the System Pharmacy Governance council & the Divisional Executive Council and carries out these responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the Mission and Values of Providence St.

Joseph Health.

The management portfolio held by this leader is notably diverse, with corresponding broad organizational implications and complexity, characterized by substantial scope of responsibility.

This role can be located in either Portland, OR or Spokane, WA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Ensures that PSJH mission and core values are at the forefront of all activities. Promotes a safe environment of care and complies with all safety regulations through employee orientation, ongoing training, policy development, and appropriate documentation. Provides leadership for the designated team to promote and maintain high employee morale and commitment to the organization during times of both stability and great change in healthcare.
  • In collaboration with system pharmacy, set strategy, plans, implements, develops, manages and evaluates contemporary clinical and operational pharmacy programs and services on a divisional level. Collaborates with system and divisional pharmacy management teams, pharmacy staff, the medical staffs, nursing departments and leadership, quality assurance departments, administration, and other departments to identify and develop patient-oriented pharmaceutical care services and clinical pharmacy programs designed to improve safety, quality of care, efficiency, or promote cost savings.
  • Collaborates with the Patient Safety and Medication Safety and other teams to develop strategies for safe medication use that minimizes the potential for medication misadventure. Oversees the tracking, evaluation, and reporting of adverse drug events (medication errors and adverse drug reactions) across the division. Ensures compliance with the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals related to Medication use.
  • Continuous quality improvement planning in collaboration with system pharmacy, medical staff, pharmacy staff, nursing staff, quality assurance, and other departments to ensure delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical care services. Helps ensure compliance with The Joint Commission, CMS, Board of Pharmacy, the DEA, State Dept. of Health, HRSA, FDA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Oversees and collaborates with system pharmacy, medical staff, pharmacy staff, quality assurance, nursing staffs and other departments to evaluate the quality of pharmaceutical care services. Helps ensure compliance with Clinical Quality Indications including CMS Measures, and The Joint Commission Medication Management Standards. Establishes and maintains pharmacy policies, procedures, requirements and standards in accordance with federal and state laws and standards of practice.
  • Oversees the process for drug policy development and the provision of drug information throughout the division with system collaboration. Coordinates the divisional Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee functions & ensures alignment with SP&T & system UM initiatives. Manages guides and collaborates with medical staff, pharmacy staffs, nursing staffs and other departments to maintain a high quality and cost-effective drug formulary.
