Position: Senior Social Worker (Tribal HUDVASH Case Manager)

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and an EDRP application must be submitted within four months of appointment. Award amount up to $200,000 and eligibility period of one to five years are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application.

Qualifications
  • United States Citizenship:
    Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
  • English Language Proficiency – proficiency in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f)
  • Education – a master’s degree in social work from a CSWE accredited school of social work; graduates from schools in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until accreditation is complete; a doctoral degree may not substitute a master’s degree.

  • Loss of Licensure or Certification – a social worker must maintain a full‑valid‑unrestricted independent license or certification. Loss results in removal from the GS‑0185 series and may result in termination.
  • May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (applicable to current VHA employees meeting the criteria).
  • Grade Determinations: GS‑12 – Senior Social Worker Experience/Education – at least two years of experience post‑advanced practice licensure, with at least one year equivalent to GS‑11 grade level.
  • Senior social workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, are experts in their specialized area, and may have certification or other post‑masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization with a defined curriculum and supervised experience.
  • Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – skill in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities; ability to integrate complex multiple causation in therapeutic planning; knowledge in measuring effectiveness of practice; ability to provide specialized consultation; ability to expand clinical knowledge; ability to write policies and guidelines.
  • Preferred Experience – experience working with people experiencing homelessness or with Tribal members.

  • Physical Requirements – light to moderate lifting and carrying up to 44 pounds, operation of a motor vehicle, use of computer and screen, hearing (aids may be permitted), exposure to outside and inside environments, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, working closely with others, working alone.

  • Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Incumbent functions as the Tribal Case Manager for Mann-Grandstaff VAMC's Housing and Urban Development vouchers assigned to local tribes.
  • Duties include program administration and organization: implements and maintains referral and screening procedures for potential Homeless Program Veteran participants that meet national policy and the needs of medical center behavioral health services.
  • Referral, screening and admission criteria recognize program eligibility, prioritization of subsets of the homeless Veteran population, and other policy‑regulation‑or‑law pertaining to program administration.
