The Mental Health Counselor provides direct therapeutic services to individuals experiencing emotional, psychological, or behavioral challenges. This role involves conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, delivering evidence‑based counseling, and collaborating with interdisciplinary professionals to support client well‑being. The counselor promotes a safe, supportive environment and empowers clients to develop healthy coping strategies and achieve personal goals.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and intake evaluations
- Develop individualized treatment plans tailored to client needs
- Provide individual, group, or family counseling using evidence‑based approaches
- Monitor client progress, adjust treatment strategies, and document all services
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical and professional standards
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, case managers, and other healthcare professionals
- Provide crisis intervention and safety planning as needed
- Educate clients and families about mental health conditions, coping skills, and available resources
- Participate in team meetings, case reviews, and quality improvement initiatives
- Maintain accurate clinical records in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field
- Active state licensure (e.g., LMHC, LPC, LCSW, or equivalent depending on state requirements)
- Minimum of 1–2 years of clinical experience providing mental health counseling
- Strong knowledge of therapeutic modalities and evidence‑based practices
- Excellent communication, assessment, and crisis‑intervention skills
- Experience working in outpatient, inpatient, community mental health, or school‑based settings
- Training in specialized therapeutic approaches such as CBT, DBT, and trauma‑informed care
- Experience working with diverse populations, including adolescents or high‑risk individuals
- Bilingual proficiency
- CPR/BLS certification – preferred or required based on facility
- Additional clinical certifications such as Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC) – preferred
