POSITION TITLE:

Mental Health Therapist

CLASSIFICATION:
Behavioral Health Department, regular, full-time, non-exempt

SUPERVISOR:
Behavioral Health Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mental Health Therapist will provide full-time counseling for Behavioral Health Patients. This position will be primarily working with Children, Youth, and Families. The Mental Health Therapist conducts individual, family, and group counseling sessions as well as assessments, case management, outreach, multi-disciplinary team staffing or meetings, and brief crisis interventions during the workday in a medical home, using the Patient-Centered Care Model.

MAJOR

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Greets community members, patients, and their families using “Sacred Hospitality” and directs them to the required resource person or service
  • Responsible for assessing, diagnosing, treating, and counseling patients. Develops recovery treatment plans, in collaboration with the patient and family, that define services, interventions, and optimum patient outcomes.
  • Updates recovery plans according to documentation requirements
  • Maintain case records containing pertinent, accurate, and current information in compliance with Privacy Act, HIPAA, and RCW/WAC policy, procedures, and rules. Keep records of patient contacts and complete all required EHR entries to ensure that clinical services are billed on the day of service.
  • Assists with patient education, case management, support services, and staffing coordination.
  • Manages appropriate patient referrals and required documentation.
  • Observe and follow required safety protocols, including the general safety of employees and patients.
  • Maintaining the appropriately sized caseload to meet productivity expectations
  • Attending outpatient staff meetings for agency communication, clinical consultation, and training
  • Coordinating the provision of clinical services for patients with other programs and/or medical services, including attending daily huddles, staff meetings, being on Open Access, brief crisis interventions, and consultation.
  • Other related responsibilities as assigned.
SKILLS:

Excellent customer service and oral and written communication skills are required. Compassion for patients is required. Work well in a team environment. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment, with the ability to anticipate future needs. Basic computer skills required. Behavioral health terminology and accurate spelling ability are required. CPR/AED certified.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Hold a valid LMHC or LICSW license OR may consider an LMHCA, LICSWA, SWAA, or SWAIC license through the State of Washington with no actions taken against the license. Dually licensed as LMHC/SUD preferred.
  • Master’s degree in Human Services, Social Services, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Experience providing mental health and/or chemical dependency counseling to adults, adolescents, and children.
  • Strong computer abilities and proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Has strong working knowledge of multicultural communities, diverse populations, social service systems, and community resources.
  • Prefer Mental Health Specialist designation in the areas of ethnic minority specialist, geriatric specialist, child mental health specialist, etc.
  • Has demonstrated strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and conflicting deadlines.
  • Has demonstrated the ability to communicate both orally and in writing in an effective and timely manner.
  • Has the ability to work in a team environment, both in leadership and peer relationships, and resolve conflict.
  • Has demonstrated strong proofreading and editing skills with excellent grammatical skills.
  • Can capably operate a variety of office equipment, such as a computer, photocopier, scanner, printer, etc.
  • Can capably use Microsoft Word or other word processing programs and has the ability to be trained to use other software programs, such as Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and EHR.
  • Can move 25-30 lb. items, sit for extended periods, and manage stress.
  • Can travel locally.
  • Uses “Sacred Hospitality” in serving patients and peers.
