Job Description Medical Secretary / Clinical Secretary
Location: New Haven, CT (On-Site)
Duration: 6-Month Contract
Schedule: 7.5-hour shifts between 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Monday-Friday
Pay Rate: $25.00/hour
About the RoleOne of Connecticut's leading healthcare systems is seeking a Medical Secretary to support a busy oncology department in New Haven. This position provides clinical scheduling, patient access, and administrative support while serving as a key point of contact for patients, providers, and visitors. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, customer-focused, and experienced working in a fast-paced medical environment.
Key Responsibilities- Schedule and coordinate patient appointments using EPIC.
- Manage a high volume of incoming phone calls and faxes, prioritizing and directing inquiries appropriately.
- Check patients in and out for appointments.
- Verify patient information and maintain accurate medical records.
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients, families, visitors, and referring providers.
- Assist with patient registration, intake, and appointment coordination.
- Handle administrative and clerical duties to support clinical operations.
- Communicate effectively with providers, clinical staff, and patients to ensure efficient workflow.
- Provide coverage and support across various clinical areas as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Experience as a Medical Secretary, Medical Receptionist, Patient Service Representative, or similar healthcare support role.
- Experience working with EPIC or another electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Strong patient service and customer support skills.
- Knowledge of patient registration, scheduling, and healthcare office procedures.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Oncology experience preferred but not required.
- Experience with patient access and prior authorisation processes.
- Additional healthcare administrative or front-desk experience.
