Key Responsibilities of the Pharmacist

• Accept and dispense prescription medications
• Monitor patient medication compliance and over-usage patterns
• Ensure that the supply of medicines is within the law
• Ensure that the medicines prescribed to patients are suitable
• Accurately maintain confidential records of all patients
• Advise patients about medicines, including how to take them and potential reactions
• Provide consultation on prescription and non-prescription medications
• Offer services such as smoking cessation, blood pressure measurement, and cholesterol management
• Educate patients on proper handling of medical devices
• Compound medications for external or internal use
• Prepare sterile solutions
• Supervise pharmacy staff
• Maintain appropriate inventory on pharmaceutical and medical supplies
• Identify drug-related problems and communicate with physicians and other healthcare practitioners
• Work with physicians, nurses, and other pharmacists

Requirements of the Pharmacist

• Doctor of Pharmacy degree required
• Licensed by the state pharmacy board
