Job PurposeThe Direct Care Worker at ADULT LEARNING SYSTEMS-LOWER MICHIGAN is responsible for providing compassionate and professional care to individuals with disabilities or special needs. This role is crucial in supporting the daily living activities of clients, ensuring their well-being, and promoting a safe and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities- Assist clients with personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting while respecting their dignity and privacy.
- Support clients in managing their daily routines, including meal preparation, medication administration, and housekeeping duties.
- Foster a positive and supportive atmosphere by engaging clients in social and recreational activities tailored to their interests and abilities.
- Monitor and document clients' health and behavior, reporting any changes or concerns to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans that meet the unique needs of each client.
- Provide transportation and accompany clients to appointments, community events, or other activities as needed.
- Ensure a safe and clean environment by adhering to health and safety regulations and organizational policies.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge in caregiving practices.
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Required Experience- Minimum of 1 year experience in a direct care role, preferably within adult learning or healthcare settings.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or mental health conditions is highly desirable.
- Proven track record of providing compassionate and effective care to adults in a residential or community setting.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, families, and team members.
- Ability to assess client needs and implement appropriate care plans.
- Competency in basic caregiving tasks such as personal hygiene assistance, medication administration, and daily activity support.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to respond calmly and efficiently in emergency situations.
- Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records of client progress and activities.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and procedures in care environments.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by client needs.
