Build Your IT Career While Doing Work That Matters

Family Promise of Spokane exists to end family homelessness one family at a time. Our IT Specialist helps make that mission possible by making sure technology doesn't get in the way of our staff serving families.

This is a hands-on, entry-level IT position designed for someone who has a genuine interest and aptitude for technology and wants the opportunity to build their skills. You do not need years of professional IT experience or an IT degree to be successful in this role.

You’ll provide day-to-day technology support to our staff while receiving structured, hands-on training and ongoing mentorship from an experienced IT advisor.

We’re looking for someone who is curious, dependable, patient, coachable, and comfortable saying, "I don't know yet, but I'll find out."

What You’ll Do

As our IT Specialist, you’ll be the first point of contact for many of our everyday technology needs. Your work will include:

  • Troubleshoot basic hardware, software, account, printer, Wi‑Fi, and connectivity issues for staff.
  • Respond to and resolve IT help‑desk requests, escalating more complex issues when needed.
  • Set up laptops, phones, user accounts, Google Workspace access, and other technology for new employees.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources to remove system access and retrieve and prepare equipment when employees leave or go on leave.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and asset‑tracking records for laptops, phones, and other FPS technology.
  • Complete routine software updates, security patches, basic backups, and device maintenance.
  • Document recurring technology issues and solutions so staff can resolve common problems more quickly.
  • Provide basic technology training and support to staff using Google Workspace, Strety, and other FPS systems.
  • Participate in regular hands‑on training with our IT advisor and apply what you learn to increasingly complex technology issues.
  • Travel between Family Promise of Spokane locations occasionally when technology support is needed.
You Might Be a Great Fit If You…
  • Enjoy figuring out why something isn't working.
  • Are the person friends, family, or coworkers already ask for basic technology help.
  • Learn new software and technology quickly.
  • Are comfortable asking questions instead of guessing when you don't know the answer.
  • Can explain technology patiently to people who aren't comfortable with computers.
  • Follow through and keep people informed when you're working on an issue.
  • Are organized enough to keep track of equipment, requests, and follow‑up tasks.
  • Welcome coaching and feedback and want to keep improving your skills.
  • Want to build a career in IT while working for an organization with a meaningful mission.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic comfort working with Windows‑based computers.
  • Genuine interest in information technology and demonstrated ability to learn technical skills.
  • Strong customer‑service skills and patience when helping non‑technical users.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Dependability, coachability, and willingness to receive and apply feedback.
  • Ability to follow direction, prioritize assigned work, and recognize when an issue needs to be escalated.
  • Willingness to learn Google Workspace and Family Promise of Spokane's technology systems.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license and ability to travel between FPS locations when required.
  • Ability to meet Family Promise of Spokane's background‑check requirements.

No minimum number of years of professional IT experience is required.

Even Better If You Have

These are preferred, but they are not required:

  • IT coursework, CompTIA A+ or another entry-level IT certification.
  • Informal, volunteer, school, or…
