Position Summary

The Janitorial Specialist keeps Maddie’s Place clean, safe, and ready for families and staff. This role focuses on routine cleaning, scheduled deep cleans, and light facilities tasks that support infection-prevention standards in a pediatric transitional care setting. Work is coordinated closely with the Facilities Manager and clinical leadership to avoid disrupting care.

Position Responsibilities Cleaning Standards and Boundaries
  • Respect Nursery boundaries. High-frequency touchpoints in active Nursery spaces remain the responsibility of Infant Care Specialist (ICS) staff. Janitorial may assist with scheduled deep cleans and non-urgent tasks when coordinated with Nursery leadership.
  • Use EPA-registered disinfectants and follow dwell times per product label and facility policy.
  • Follow infection-control precautions, wear required PPE, and practice safe chemical handling and storage.
Daily (or Each Shift)
  • Collect and dispose of trash and recycling throughout common areas; replace liners.
  • Clean and restock bathrooms: sinks, toilets, handrails, mirrors, dispensers; refill TP, soap, and paper towels, including Nursery supply checks as assigned.
  • Wipe tables, counters, and high-touch surfaces in common areas.
  • Disinfect appliance and door handles and light switches.
  • Floors: spot mop and sweep; perform full mop in assigned zones per schedule; vacuum rugs and carpeted areas as assigned.
  • Dust visible surfaces and ledges; tidy shared spaces and restock supplies.
  • Document work completed on the daily checklist and report maintenance or safety issues.
  • Deep clean sinks and fixtures throughout the facility.
  • Laundry room: wipe machines, counters, and interior windows; clean glass and blinds.
  • Kitchen: deep clean counters, sinks, microwave, appliance exteriors and handles; sweep and mop.
  • Refrigerators and freezers: clean out and sanitize; label and discard expired items.
  • Nursery carpets: coordinate biweekly carpet cleaning when rooms are unoccupied; post signage and ensure adequate drying time.
  • “Mom’s” bathroom: extended deep clean and re-stock.
Upholstery Care
  • Sanitize upholstery daily using approved products.
  • Steam lean upholstery weekly on a staggered schedule to allow for drying and avoid disruption to care.
Monthly (or As Scheduled)
  • Vents and return grilles: dust and wipe.
  • Showers: descaling and full disinfecting.
  • Cabinets and cupboard fronts: wipe down.
  • Spot-clean wall scuffs; coordinate minor touch-up paint with Facilities.
  • Dryer: clean lint trap housing and inspect vent intake; elevate any concerns.
  • Specialty or quiet rooms: wipe hard surfaces, glass, and high-touch points.
  • Other deep-clean tasks as assigned.
Facilities Support
  • Monitor inventory and restock janitorial supplies; submit purchase requests before levels are low.
  • Set up and break down rooms for events or trainings, including moving light furniture.
  • Open, log, and elevate work orders for repairs beyond scope.
  • Maintain cleaning equipment; replace mop heads and vacuum bags/filters per schedule.
Collaboration, Professionalism, and Culture
  • Communicate proactively with the Facility Manager,ICS, Nursing, and Operations to schedule work that protects privacy and minimizes disruption.
  • Uphold Maddie’s Place values by modeling professionalism, teamwork, and a family-centered mindset.
  • Protect confidentiality; never discuss or display PHI and follow all privacy and safety policies.
  • Contribute ideas for improving cleanliness, safety, and the family experience.
Qualifications
  • Strong learner with attention to detail. Able to quickly learn and consistently apply cleaning protocols, equipment use, and infection prevention practices. Prior experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of cleaning methods, chemical safety, and infection-prevention practices.
  • Ability to read and follow product labels, Safety Data Sheets, and checklists.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills; reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented.
  • Valid TB screening and required immunizations per facility policy; annual influenza vaccination or approved exemption.
Physical and Schedule Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and push carts for extended periods; lift and carry up to 40 lbs; safely use ladders or step stools.
  • Part-time, on-site role. Target 20 hours per week at approximately 4 hours per day, 5 days per week
    . Hours may flex up to 25 hours in heavier weeks based on operational needs and special projects. Schedule is subject to change based on the needs of Maddie’s Place.
  • Work schedule set by the Facilities Manager; occasional early morning, evening, or weekend work may be scheduled to avoid patient disruption.
