Job Summary

The Associate Vice President (AVP) of Business & Auxiliary Services reports to the Vice President for Business & Strategy and oversees the strategic planning, operational oversight, and financial management of a diverse portfolio of auxiliary enterprises, procurement, and risk management functions. The AVP leads most university auxiliary enterprises, supervises directors of Dining Services, Eagle Services, Eagle Store, Sports and Recreation, Procurement & Contracts, and Risk Management, and manages a $16.5 million operating budget.

The role demands high-level business acumen, supervisory skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a decentralized, shared‑governance environment.

Responsibilities Auxiliaries
  • Provide strategic leadership and develop and implement plans, goals, and procedures for Dining Services, the Eagle Store, Eagle Services, and Sports and Recreation.
  • Oversee daily operations and ensure effective service delivery across all units.
  • Manage budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility, strong internal controls, and achievement of revenue targets; develop complex financial models and pricing strategies to increase diversified revenue.
  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate a diverse team of directors, fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, and exceptional customer service.
  • Negotiate, manage, and monitor contracts with external vendors to ensure quality service and favorable financial terms.
Procurement & Contracts
  • Strategically lead, oversee, and manage all contract-related activities, including development, negotiation, review, and execution of a wide variety of contracts.
  • Ensure contracts align with university policies and legal requirements while mitigating risk.
  • Supervise the Director of Procurement & Contracts; oversee vendor creation, requisitions, and purchase orders, as well as purchase card administration.
Risk Management
  • Direct and lead enterprise risk management strategies, identifying, transferring, mitigating, and responding to risks.
  • Supervise the Director of Risk Management who handles insurance procurement, audits, claims, and risk assessments.
  • Oversee Environmental Health & Safety compliance, hazardous waste disposal, and safety training.
Public Records, Subpoenas, Records Management
  • Oversee the Public Records Manager in responding to public records requests, subpoenas, search warrants, and FERPA requests.
  • Maintain records retention schedules, provide training, and monitor compliance with records requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Education & Experience
    • A master’s degree in business administration, closely related field, or a juris doctorate.
    • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in a complex business environment.
    • At least five (5) years of supervisory experience overseeing auxiliary services, procurement, and/or real estate, preferably within higher education.
  • Skills
    • Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating highly complex and high‑value contracts.
    • Expertise in budget development, fiscal management, financial analysis, and strategic business planning for revenue‑generating operations.
    • Proven ability to lead and supervise a large, diverse staff, manage complex projects simultaneously, and make data‑driven decisions.
    • Professional and collaborative interactions with staff and university constituents.
    • Responsive, flexible approach supportive of the needs of all students, faculty, staff, and the public, including universal access.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in auxiliaries or procurement at a higher education institution.
  • Experience with insurance and enterprise risk management.

Salary & Benefits

Salary: $152,320 – $158,524 per year, commensurate with education, experience, and skills.
