Essential Job FunctionsThis list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:
- Supervises an effective and efficient custodial service program; coordinates with each site administrator for custodial services support.
- Work with District administrators and staff to coordinate the physical security program of the District.
- Work with school staff to ensure that schools are complying with required security drills, policies, and procedures.
- Attend regional and state school security training and meetings.
- Recommend changes to security policies and procedures.
- Supervises the performance of all custodial staff, evaluates performance of staff assigned after consulting with building administrators, assigns and reviews work of all custodial staff, and develops work schedules.
- Assists the Director of Maintenance in managing the Maintenance Department.
- Conducts custodial training classes, refresher classes, and maintains all documentation on custodial staff training and certification.
- Communicates with district and site administrators, personnel, vendors, sales representatives, and others regarding cleaning supplies and materials, cleaning and repair needs, work orders, and pesticide application.
- Conducts district facility observations, provides reports to the site administrator and maintenance director. Evaluates, identifies, and implements custodial work in the scheduled cleaning program based on the outcomes of the reports.
- Reviews and coordinates all substitute custodial hires with the Human Resource Department.
- Monitor staff absences, on a daily basis, and fill vacancies utilizing the district’s substitute placement and absence management system.
- Controls expenditures in line with established budgets. Determines and recommends all custodial budgetary needs such as labor, materials, supplies, equipment, and contracted services. Provides realistic labor and materials cost estimates for project-type custodial work and prepares material requirements lists.
- Tests and evaluates new custodial equipment, materials, and methods to keep abreast of latest developments in the custodial field.
- Responsible for conducting staff interviews and recommending new hires/transfers; evaluates, trains, approves staff leaves and overtime, and disciplines assigned staff when necessary.
- Responds immediately for emergencies which endanger life and district property; assists in cleaning and restoration work and prevention of further damage.
- Communicates with other district departments, general public, community groups, and outside agencies to ensure compliance with public health, safety, and district regulations.
- Ensures the safe and responsible operation of assigned district vehicles.
- Routinely check buildings, grounds, and equipment to ensure proper maintenance and safety.
- Be familiar with all materials and equipment used in preventative maintenance of the building and grounds.
- Must be able to work various shifts, when required, as a result of extra-curricular activities or emergencies.
- Must be neat, clean, and dress appropriately.
- Assist in upholding and enforcing school district rules, administrative regulations, and board policies.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Requires the use of multiple communication systems, such as electronic mail and computers.
- Inspect school or district facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identifying necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.
