At Collins Aerospace Carbon Operations in Spokane, WA we specialize in producing carbon brakes for commercial and military aircraft applications. We’re hiring a motivated, entry-level Furnace Deck Operator I. In this role you will be responsible for core production processes in the manufacturing of carbon‑carbon composite brake components and other key industry technology.
The Furnace Deck department manages the carbon vapor deposition process, which requires loading/unloading, preventative maintenance, operation, and monitoring of industrial high‑temperature furnaces designed to deposit hydrocarbon molecules within a textile carbon preform (disk). The operator will also maneuver high‑capacity cranes, utilize forklifts, and operate various other pieces of equipment to ensure product quality and delivery timelines meet customer needs. Work varies from supporting and troubleshooting automated robots to performing complex physical tasks.
RotatingShift Structure
- 4-on/4-off rotation equates to 6 months off every year
- Rotating day/night shift every 6 weeks
- 12‑hour shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM / 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

- Work 4 days on/4 days off – 12‑hour shifts, rotating days to nights every 6 weeks.
- Knowledge of all pertinent customer and company specifications, including international standards related to the production of carbon‑carbon brake components and company policies.
- Operation of a range of support equipment including overhead cranes, forklifts, vacuums, scissor lifts, and power tools.
- Conducting furnace readings, rounds, and overseeing process flow to maintain optimal operation.
- Performing equipment preventative maintenance as directed and promptly reporting any mechanical or safety concerns to supervisors.
- Understanding Collins and customer specifications, finished products, and relevant policies.
- Basic operations of the furnace process.
- Recognizing issues with the process equipment tolerance limits.
- Typically requires a high school diploma or GED.
- Experience using hand tools.
- Manufacturing or similar industry-related experience.
