Overview
Collins Aerospace in Spokane WA is hiring for a motivated entry level Machine Shop Operator I. You will learn and be responsible for the set‑up, calibration and operation of machines used in the production process. Training is provided on the job. The Machine Shop is responsible for ensuring features are cut into the densified carbon material from Furnace Deck. This highly complex process requires operators to have sound math skills and meticulous attention to detail as well as a mechanically inclined mind.
WhatYou Will Do
- Part of a team‑oriented atmosphere and interact with other functional groups (e.g., engineering) on technical matters.
- Setup CNC machines and run parts (training provided).
- Follow a weekly Preventative Maintenance process.
- Follow applicable instructions (WI, SOP, Reference documents).
- Use precision gauging tools (including CMM), verifying gauge calibration (micrometers, calipers, drills, inserts, etc.).
- Identify and document out‑of‑spec conditions.
- Complete daily machine inspections, calibration verification.
- Follow First Piece Inspection procedure, tools, inserts and their functions.
- Adhere to all safety policies (Collins Aerospace Cardinal Rules).
- Participate in 5S/continuous improvement processes (ACE).
- Observe and follow all environmental, health and safety procedures.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Adhere to all engineering instructions, standard operation procedures, and all departmental procedures.
- Prioritize tasks under constantly changing conditions requiring ingenuity and judgment.
- Work 4 days on/4 days off – 12‑hour shifts, rotating days to nights every 6 weeks.
- Knowledge of all pertinent customer and company specifications including international standards relating to the production of carbon‑carbon brake components and company policies.
- Complete all training as assigned in the allotted time.
- Setup CNC machines and run parts.
- Use forklift and pallet jack.
- Use riveters both manual and automated.
- Use scales, calipers, micrometers.
- Use bar code scanning equipment.
- Use various tools (mixes, hotplates, etc.).
- Operate the automated oxidation coating station.
- Operate oxidation bake‑out ovens.
- Operate power and pneumatic equipment.
- Typically requires a HS Diploma or a GED.

- Manufacturing or similar industry related experience.
- Preferred:
Experience with G&M codes, macro programming and editing process.
