Machine Shop Operator I

Collins Aerospace in Spokane, WA is hiring a motivated entry‑level Machine Shop Operator I. The primary responsibility is to set up, calibrate, and operate CNC machines and other equipment in the production process. Training is provided on the job.

Shift Structure
  • 4-on/4-off rotation, equating to 6 months off each year
  • Rotating day/night shift every 6 weeks
  • 12‑hour shifts (6:00 AM–6:00 PM / 6:00 PM–6:00 AM)
Compensation
  • Built‑in, guaranteed overtime
  • “Free” hours on non‑overtime weeks
  • Total annual compensation starting at $50,000 per year
  • Starting hourly pay $20.50, shift differential $2.25, 208 hours of built‑in overtime per year

Responsibilities
  • Participate in a team‑oriented atmosphere and interact with other functional groups (e.g., engineering) on technical matters.
  • Set up and run CNC machines (training provided).
  • Follow a weekly Preventative Maintenance process.
  • Adhere to instructions such as WI, SOP, and reference documents.
  • Use precision gauging tools (including CMM), verify gauge calibration (micrometers, calipers, drills, inserts).
  • Identify and document out‑of‑spec conditions.
  • Complete daily machine inspections and calibration verification.
  • Follow First Piece Inspection procedure and associated tools.
  • Adhere to all safety policies (Collins Aerospace Cardinal Rules).
  • Participate in 5S/continuous improvement processes (ACE).
  • Follow environmental, health, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Prioritize tasks under constantly changing conditions requiring ingenuity and judgment.
  • Work 4 days on/4 days off—12‑hour shifts, rotating day to night every 6 weeks.
What You Will Learn
  • Knowledge of customer and company specifications, including international standards for carbon‑carbon brake components.
  • Complete all scheduled training.
  • Set up and run CNC machines.
  • Operate forklift, pallet jack, riveters (manual and automated).
  • Use scales, calipers, micrometers, barcode scanners.
  • Operate automated oxidation coating station, oxidation bake‑out ovens.
  • Operate power and pneumatic equipment.
Qualifications – Required
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • U.S. Person status (citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee/asylee).
  • Manufacturing or related industry experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with G&M codes, Macro programming, and editing processes.
