Manufacturing Lead (Electrical)
The Manufacturing Lead (Electrical) serves as the first-line leader for electrical production activities, coordinating day-to-day operations on the shop floor while providing hands-on trade expertise. This role combines strong electrical assembly skills with leadership, coaching, and analytical capabilities to ensure quality, efficiency, and engagement across the team. The individual organizes and directs work, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and communicates effectively with both production personnel and other stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate electrical production activities on the manufacturing floor, ensuring work is properly assigned, re-assigned, and executed to meet quality and schedule requirements.
- Monitor daily work progress, craftsmanship, and productivity, and provide coaching and feedback to team members.
- Participate in Assembly Machine Status updates and Mission Control meetings to review performance, address issues, and align priorities.
- Support the resolution of floor issues by coordinating resources, troubleshooting problems, and escalating concerns when necessary.
- Provide clear verbal and written end-of-shift pass-on information to ensure effective handoffs between shifts.
- Verify that quality inspections are completed accurately and confirm that participating workers are appropriately trained.
- Lead morning stand-up meetings to communicate daily goals, staffing plans, safety topics, and production priorities.
- Develop and execute staffing plans to ensure adequate coverage and efficient use of labor resources.
- Champion housekeeping and 7S activities as part of daily, weekly, and monthly plant operations to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Deliver weekly 5-minute training topics to reinforce safety, quality, and process standards.
- Participate in Plant Gemba and Continuous Improvement stand-up meetings, contributing to the advising, planning, coordinating, execution, and closure of Tasks to Improve (TTIs) and continuous improvement projects.
- Contribute to plant staff meetings by sharing information, ideas, and feedback, and support the planning and execution of plant projects.
- Assist in compiling Machine Gemba boards, project binders, quality binders, and other project-specific documentation.
- Support monthly plant morale and communication events to foster engagement and a positive work culture.
- Perform Part Cart returns and ensure materials are properly managed and accounted for.
- Manage consumable materials, including requesting materials through the MRO process and coordinating with vendors as needed.
- Champion quality improvements by actively participating in monthly quality control meetings and driving corrective actions.
- Recognize strong individual performance through established recognition programs such as awards and spot acknowledgments.
- Conduct or support monthly training topics by facilitating sessions or coordinating resources to ensure ongoing skill development.
- Support supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, and training employees.
- Assist with planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Ensure adherence to safety rules, operating procedures, and maintenance instructions, and promote safe work practices at all times.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to production, quality, and training activities.
- Utilize personal computer systems and business software to track production data, prepare reports, and communicate effectively.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated craft skill experience in electrical assembly, with the ability to produce high-quality parts and complete required documentation.
- Proficiency in mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical assembly processes within a manufacturing or production environment.
- Ability to operate all relevant hand and power tools used in mechanical and electrical assembly safely and effectively.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, specifications, and procedure manuals.
- Strong capability in wiring, electrical troubleshooting, and assembly of components according to schematics and blueprints.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and consistently.
- Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and self-motivation.
- Problem-solving skills to address a wide variety of mechanical and electrical issues in situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in a clear and professional manner.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups within the organization, including leading stand-up meetings and training sessions.
- Mathematical skills sufficient to calculate figures and amounts required for the supervisory area assigned.
