Job Description:

Position Summary

Under direct supervision, perform basic mechanical and/or electrical assembly operations on production units.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job.

Essential Duties, Knowledge and Skills
  • Read and interpret basic blueprints, wiring diagrams, specifications, and work orders to determine materials requirements or assembly instructions
  • Assist with or assemble basic sections of machines to customer specifications; attach unit to assembly, subassembly or frame using various hand and power tools
  • Perform basic mechanical assembly operations to exacting tolerances; position and align parts using fixtures, jigs and templates; work with rotating shafts, gear trains, mechanical structures, and sprockets.
  • Drill, tap, ream, countersink, and spot face bolt holes in parts; file, lap and buff parts to fit; clean and lubricate parts and subassemblies
  • Use measuring instruments to level and align work, detect and eliminate run-out, work to close tolerances with a demand for square, concentricity and parallelism.
  • Assist with or assemble basic electrical or electronic systems or support structures and install components, units, subassemblies, wiring, or assembly casings using rivets, bolts, and soldering equipment
  • Label, wire and connect switch boxes and control panel terminal boards from basic wiring diagrams.
  • Check wiring for proper coding and termination; check for shorts, grounds, and continuity.
  • Assist with the detection of defective material, unusual conditions or operating difficulties and report to supervisor
  • Attend team meetings; may provide input on quality, cost, or production issues
  • Regularly and effectively communicate and interact with other team members
  • Regular and predictable attendance at the worksite and on any assigned shift or work schedule is required for this position, as is the ability to work frequent overtime; this is not a job that can be performed remotely
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures
  • Maintain work area and equipment in clean, orderly and safe manner
  • Other duties as assigned

Education

High school diploma or equivalent. Military, trade school or community college coursework in mechanical/electrical assembly, repair, and troubleshooting desired.
