Community Impact and Communications Intern

Department: Community Impact and Communications

Salary Range 5 Non-exempt: $16.27 - $24.40 (Pay will be $18 per hour)

Start Date: End of August 2026

Employment Type: Temporary part time totaling 300 hours

Reports To: Community Impact Manager

Summary

The Community Impact and Communications Intern will be an integral part of the dynamic, innovative, and creative Community Impact and Communications team, contributing to Numerica’s mission of giving back to the community, storytelling, and supporting financial wellness. This role will involve activating sponsor ships, partnerships, and events that enhance Numerica's impact across Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho. The intern will help bring to life key community initiatives such as Numerica’s financial education program, Pride Festival, Hoopfest, EWU football, Gonzaga basketball, nonprofit fundraisers, and more.

The intern will also have the opportunity to support communications, social media, and PR strategies.

This hands‑on position will provide valuable experience in sponsorship strategy, event management, and execution. The intern will participate in project meetings, gaining insights into the planning and execution processes of sponsor ships and events. This role will directly support our financial education program by teaching in a classroom and/or nonprofit setting. They will also collaborate with various team members, the credit union, and the broader community to ensure the successful implementation of Numerica’s philanthropic goals both internally and externally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with coordinating and supporting community events and sponsor ships, including managing on‑site presence at various events.
  • Help with volunteer coordination efforts, including recruitment and tracking of volunteers.
  • Participate in Numerica’s social media strategies by capturing and developing content that supports brand awareness and engagement.
  • Contribute to the creation and execution of PR campaigns focused on community engagement and philanthropic efforts.
  • Provide support to the Community Impact and Communications team by performing tasks such as organizing event materials and promotional items, filing, and providing on‑site assistance at events.
  • Aid the Financial Education & Engagement program with scheduling, event coordination, and occasionally delivering public presentations on personal finance topics.
  • Ensure all tasks (both internal and outsourced) are completed within set performance standards and deadlines.
  • Maintains knowledge and adheres to all BSA regulations and compliance standards on internal and external policies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no formal, direct supervisory responsibilities although will work with leaders and peers in the organization to drive results.

Performance Standards

The ideal candidate for the Community Impact and Communications internship will be outgoing, community‑minded, and comfortable engaging with the general public. Preferred skills include the abilities to stay organized, to produce quality work, meet assigned deadlines, and contribute in a team setting.

The selected intern should be able to commit to a flexible schedule, as the role will consistently require attendance at evening and weekend events. These events will primarily be in Spokane and North Idaho but may also involve travel to other Numerica markets such as Tri‑Cities and Wenatchee.

All travel expenses related to Numerica, including transportation, lodging, and meals, will be covered in addition to the hourly wage. Typical community events will take place on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and in‑office days are flexible with Tuesdays being the required in‑office collaboration day.
