The American University Washington College of Law (WCL) Office of Strategic Communications & Marketing (OSCM) is seeking a part-time Marketing Assistant with strong photography, content creation, and digital media skills for approximately 10-15 hours per week. The Marketing Assistant will play a key role in visually documenting life at AUWCL through high-quality event photography while also creating engaging digital content for social media and other communications channels.
Working closely with the Assistant Dean and the OSCM team, the Marketing Assistant will help bring the law school's brand to life through compelling photography, short-form video, and creative visual storytelling.
Part-time. 20 hours per week.
Salary Range$18.40 - $20.00 per hour.
Essential Functions- Attending law school events to capture high-quality photography for use across web, social media, marketing materials, and institutional communications.
- Producing and editing photography for timely publication, ensuring images accurately reflect the vibrancy and professionalism of the AUWCL community.
- Planning, producing, filming, and editing short-form video content for social media platforms, including Instagram Reels, You Tube Shorts, and other digital channels.
- Developing creative visual concepts that highlight the AUWCL experience, student life, faculty scholarship, alumni, and major institutional initiatives.
- Producing polished photography and video for formal events, academic programs, faculty interviews, and institutional campaigns.
- Contributing to and helping manage a content calendar to ensure consistent, timely delivery of digital assets.
- Brainstorming new and innovative multimedia ideas that advance the law school's strategic goals and resonate with target audiences.
- Repurposing and customizing photography and video content for a variety of platforms to maximize reach and engagement.
- Assisting with broader storytelling efforts, including writing captions, drafting short feature content, and other communications projects as needed.
- Other communication and marketing tasks as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Must be a current American University student in good standing.
- Must have digital content samples (i.e. Tik Tok/Instagram reels).
- Strong creative vision and demonstrated experience producing engaging short-form video content.
- Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or mobile editing apps such as Cap Cut).
- Familiarity with social media platforms and trends, especially Instagram Reels, Tik Tok, and You Tube Shorts.
- Photography and graphic design skills (including Photoshop) a plus.
- Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, CRMs, and digital content tools.
- Professionalism, reliability, strong attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-moving environment.
Education and Experience
- Previous work in communications, marketing, or digital media is a strong plus.
Schedule is flexible based on events and production needs. Fast-paced, highly collaborative office with attendance at frequent (often weekly) events. Work includes both on-campus event coverage and independent creative production.
