Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and team‑oriented Community Engagement Specialist to strengthen and foster meaningful partnerships between Eastern Washington University and the broader community. The specialist will coordinate service‑learning initiatives, assess student learning outcomes, facilitate volunteer engagement, develop programs that connect students, faculty, and community organizations, and support the EWU Aspire program.

Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, nonprofits, government agencies, and businesses to identify collaboration opportunities.
  • Serve as a liaison between EWU students, faculty, and community organizations to facilitate volunteerism, internships, and career‑centered learning projects.
  • Represent EWU at community meetings, events, and service initiatives.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase student and faculty participation in community engagement programs.
  • Organize and manage community‑based programs, events, and service projects aligned with the university’s engagement goals.
  • Provide administrative assistance for the office of community engagement, including front‑desk coverage coordination.
  • Assist with the EWU Aspire program, ensuring students gain real‑world experience through mentoring, leadership, and direct engagement with K‑12 students.
  • Track participation of students and community partners and assess the impact of engagement programs by collecting data.
  • Assist with grant writing and fundraising efforts to develop community engagement programs.
  • Develop promotional materials, newsletters, and social media content to highlight community engagement efforts.
  • Manage the community engagement website and maintain up‑to‑date information on available service opportunities.
  • Provide reports and presentations to university leadership and stakeholders on community engagement impact.
  • Work in partnership with university colleagues to enhance student participation and engagement and community impact efforts.
  • Interpret university policies, procedures, and requirements for students.
  • Represent EWU on campus and community committees.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in community development, social work, public administration, education, or a related field.
  • Minimum two years of experience in community engagement, outreach, program coordination, or a related field.
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • Experience managing programs, events, or volunteer initiatives.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.
  • Student‑centered with a passion for student success.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that supports the needs of students, faculty, staff, and the public, including universal access.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting."li>
  • Familiarity with service‑learning and civic engagement best practices.
  • Mandarin or Spanish bilingual fluency, with Spanish preferred.
