Registered Nurse 2 – On‑Call – Spokane Veterans Home
The Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) seeks a Registered Nurse 2 On‑Call to provide resident‑centered care at Spokane Veterans Home.
BenefitsEligibility for "Supplement Basic Shift Premium" for 24/7 Facilities:
Employees receive an additional $1.00 per hour of basic shift premium for each hour worked at a 24/7 facility. The supplemental basic shift premium expires on June 29, 2027.
"On‑call" positions involve intermittent, sporadic work without a fixed pattern. On‑call staff support operational staffing needs on a rotational basis, with a minimum availability of three shifts per week on two different shifts.
Hybrid/TeleworkThis position is not eligible for telework.
Responsibilities- Maintain healthcare records according to current policies and procedures.
- Administer medications and treatments for residents unable to do their own or monitor self‑pour medications.
- Maintain an incident log and provide feedback to direct‑care staff.
- Encourage and empower residents and staff to meet residents' needs in a respectful, homelike environment.
- Maintain open communication and information-sharing with staff.
- Assist in presenting training materials to staff.
- Perform nursing assessments of residents as required by condition and on a quarterly basis for the Minimum Data Set.
- Assume responsibility for self‑development by staying aware of new techniques and medications.
- Make rounds regularly to ensure unit compliance with expectations.
- Hold the staffing book as assigned.
- Valid RN license from the State of Washington.
- Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- At least one year of professional nursing experience.
- Proficiency in nursing and restorative care methods, personal hygiene, sanitation, record keeping, infection control, and resident rights.
- Ability to assess, evaluate, and develop appropriate plans of care; implement and document discharge planning as needed.
- Proficient in English (read, write, speak).
- Agency required competencies:
- The ability to take action to learn and grow.
- The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.
- Additional year of experience as an RN.
- Experience providing a positive living environment for residents, meeting psychosocial needs.
- Effective communication and professionalism; serve as a positive role model to staff.
- Long‑term care experience.
- Pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check every two years per WDVA policy.
- Comply with annual Tuberculin Screening per DVA policy.
- Medical evaluation, fit testing, training, use of respiratory protection and PPE as required.
- Remain current on CPR.
- Be able to lift up to 60 lbs and reach a minimum of 36 inches using proper technique; push or pull with sufficient strength and walk, sit, bend unrestrictedly throughout the workday.
- Maintain a valid practical nursing license from the Washington Department of Health.
- Maintain regular, reliable attendance and willingness to work as needed.
- Complete employee orientation and all mandatory training within mandated time frames.
- Familiarize with all DVA policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Sign the confidentiality statement for all employees.
- Drivers' license and insurance required if travel for duties.
- Work authorization that does not require employer sponsorship.
