Overview
The Environmental Services Technician maintains high standards of cleanliness throughout the facility. They clean and disinfect assigned areas, transport and remove waste, sanitize, stock, and organize areas. The role follows standard work processes, complies with infection prevention standards, properly mixes and stores chemicals, and uses personal protective equipment.
Key Accountabilities- Clean and disinfect patient rooms, floors, offices, conference rooms, equipment, furniture, common areas, and waiting rooms following hospital‑approved infection prevention standards.
- Collaborate with multiple departments to ensure patient and department priorities are met day‑to‑day for the safest outcome.
- Work independently or on a team to achieve system standards.
- Use required personal protective equipment per infection prevention protocol.
- Use hospital‑approved chemicals and disinfectants and follow dwell times for each task and product.
- Handle various types of waste including regular, recycling, hazardous, chemo, regulated medical waste, pharmaceutical, and radioactive.
- Understand basic standards set by federal, state, and local regulating bodies.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and support hospital mission, vision, values, standards, policies and procedures, confidentiality, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards, and ethical behavior.
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend the English language.
Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to twenty‑five (25) pounds without assistance. Position is exposed to blood‑borne pathogens while performing duties.
Work EnvironmentPossible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents. Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. Potential exposure to sharp objects and instruments.
Schedule and CompensationSchedule:
7:30a.m.–3:30p.m., Monday–Friday. No weekends, no holidays. Scheduled weekly hours: 30. Scheduled FTE: 0.75.
