Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Overview

South Care Animal Medical Center is a Gold Certified Cat Friendly Practice from AAFP and the only Envirostars and Enviro Certified clinic on the West coast. The clinic focuses on culture, care, and sustainable practices.

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian and gain experience in:

• Gathering patient histories
• Performing physical exams and diagnostics
• Creation of treatment plans and dentistry services
• Observing, assisting, or performing surgical procedures
• Medical management of patients
• Practicing communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.

Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend amount for South Care Animal Medical Center is $1,000.
